My house was built in 1931-35 (forgot the exact year). I remodeled the house inside one room at a time. My electrician said when we did the kitchen (last big room in 2015) that it had fabric cased wiring, which points to about late 60's-early 70's as the black Romex debuted in the early 70s. Even at that age the wiring was suspect much less the style of the knob and tube...and that's for just running basic household stuff like a fridge, radiation box, and the like.

I figure my 14 year old truck got a new frame 2 years ago, running gear has 133K (all but 6500 of it is mine so I know how it's been driven and maintained), my needs aren't changing so I have no real need to change. In general I don't do much driving now that I work from home, about 8K a year. I do need a truck for the usual homeowner stuff periodically though. Wife has a 2014 Rav4 with 52K and she does about 10K a year.

Ahh the old anti EV crowd argument. They don't exist, who are they, where are they, where do they report for duty, are they hiding under the bed? Maybe there should be an EV class driver's license a motorist would need to obtain. The classification colud prove that the EV operator understands what could happen in the event of an EV crash. Skills test to demonstrate that they can operate an EV with their instant acceleration. Maybe even a basic physics portion of the test showing that the operator understands what happens when a heavy mass is projected down the road at an accelerated rate of speed. Statistic would indicate that once more EV are on the road. There will be more EV crashes, more fatalities as a result of those crashes, and more EV fires.

I can see that for the 9,063 lb Hummer EV, but for the other end of the spectrum where the leaf weighs less than and is slower than my supercharged Tacoma… your argument doesn’t make sense. Besides, we don’t really even gatekeeper getting a license or operating deadly machinery in this country anyway.*
See other countries with graduated class levels. Look up EPA TRAKTOR classification in Sweden. Motorcycle classes in the UK.

What y’all think about the Mini Cooper EV as a commuter/grocery getter? It’ll replace my RAV4 Prime as I got an outrageous offer on it. 21k miles in and I pretty much drive the Prime only in EV. I’ve filled up the tank a grand total of 5 times in 2 years. 3-5 gallons each time because it’ll last me well over 6 months. After that I force myself to use the gas as it gets old.

Seems like the Prime is doing what you need. But you definitely will get high trade in value as the Prime is highly sought after. I don't hear too much about the Mini EV but I'd look for some review vids and take a test drive of one before you decide.

I work around it’s weaknesses. It’s just not good for much else beyond going to work and back home (EV only). The Mini having at least double the EV range should fit my needs just fine. I’ve just never driven anything that small. But I also don’t want a crossover. When the Audi A6 Avant e tron comes out I’ll also get that for the larger range to go alongside the replacement vehicle and my GX.

I have watched pretty much all the review videos and most of them just parrot the same thing. Handles like a Mini should, slower than a JCW, range is abysmal.

I passed one today and wow, it’s huge. Bigger than my leaf. That’s all I have.

A 2 door Cooper is huge? Idk. I could probably park 2 in line in my new garage.

The ICE Mini Coopers have garbage engines and transmissions, but the EV version doesn't have them so it might not be too bad. Are you looking at a new or used Mini?

Pretty much why I even started looking at European vehicles. No longer have to deal with the hit or miss under the hood. Probably new. Their lease offer seems pretty good.

LOL, you quoted a right wing "think tank" and expect it to be unbiased?

This is the same one who loved to use big scary words about how the earth is CONSUMED to mine for lithium so the agenda can continue to bias folks with fear tactics.

This is just one of those biased organizations that calls themselves something that sounds unbiased just so it can push an agenda. Both side have a bunch of them.
