I have noticed this seems to be happening now. A couple years ago I pulled into a car wash and they had no one who could move a manual.

Move ahead to just a few weeks ago i had new tires and wheels put on, and when they were done they couldn't move my truck out of the bay, because "the guy who knows how to drive a manual" was on break. So I had to pull it out.

anyone else? ...or do i just happen to be the lucky one to pull into these places?

I guess where you live impacts that quite a bit.

I never drove an auto transmission and have no idea how . I would be afraid of doing damage and needing to pay $$$ so I would refuse to drive it.

My sister in law borrowed my Dad's old Toyota Corolla for a bit. She used to back it out of the driveway and immediately slam it into drive while the car was still rolling backwards.

I had a buddy that had an old beat up van, he used to put a steering wheel lock on it when he parked it away from home. We use to give him crap that the
steering wheel lock was worth more than his crappy van. Just got word my old buddy passed away "RBGravy" was quite a character. He carried a small cooler always stocked
with Coors Light. If you saw him park at your curb, cooler in hand...you know you were in for a long visit!

"RBGravy" was a real life "Big Lebowski". He left behind a lot of great stories about him and his antics. Like the time he was leaving the local watering hole and backed into a Police Cruiser. It had been a long afternoon....

I heard on the radio a while back (so it must be true) that the number of young drivers has been going down.

OK with me, less people looking at their phones or high on pot.

Grew up with 3-on-the-tree and 4-on-the-floor. I taught my kids how to drive M/T on a ‘96 Gen 1. They do it poorly, but only for lack of practice.

I remember being in High School and a student pulled up front driving with his Grandpa and shifted into Park while still moving about 20 MPH. That Malibu made all kinds of clicking and grinding noises and Grandpa tried not to flip out, lol.

It’s inevitable with less and less manuals on the road every year. When I started driving, virtually every new vehicle had an auto tranny as an option at extra $$$.

I pulled in and backed out my Golf R from Discount tire (obviously in the States) before. In Europe the Taco is a non issue. Most people here are surprised that an American drives a stick shift

Same problem here... exact same problem to be exact I actually had to pick up my own truck since they couldn't move it... makes me wonder if someone could actually pull it in... without frying the clutch ?!

    Blanket statement….
I see all sorts of old men, in full sized pickups staring into their phones, headed to the dispensary.
