Curious if anyone has heard of anyway to upgrade the head unit in the Tacoma to the wireless CarPlay display of the tundra.. they look to be the same size and may require a different harness ect just a thought.

No, they are vehicle specific, also wildly expensive. They interface with numerous modules in the truck and the new gen trucks have a completely different interface.

They do have adapters for your truck that make it wireless, I've seen a few in customers trucks.

Go aftermarket. A legitimate HU vendor/mfg will supply the wire harness and advise on figment.

Yeah the adapters suck though cause they don’t allow users to connect/disconnect switch phones easily like standalone wireless systems.
Yeah I figured there’s a bunch of module differences, sensors ect. But sometimes there’s some crazy hacks.

Yeah haven’t seen a headunit I like and still want it to track consumption and look OEM.

The modern units interface with the OEM digital interface (YMMV). I like the look of my Joying.

Yeah I think that’s the only one that integrates well but I don’t care for the user interface.

M1A1 Motorola wirless carplay. I have had for about 5 months. It disconnects every now and then when in areas effected by service but is plug, play and leave, $90. I did see a user on here with a Pioneer touch screen that looked very nice. Having had one in my last truck i would definately go with them again.

Alot of the wireless carplay/aa adapters you can buy from aliexpress and the price isn't jacked up. I got one from there and it came pretty quick.

I have a car link adapter it works okay if it’s just me but it can’t hot swap or add users/friends conveniently and switch between phones to play music like the current OEM versions is the problem.

How is this working for you? Still ok and automatically connecting when you start the truck?

So far it's working perfectly. Connects every time I start the truck up. Takes a few moments longer to connect than hard-wired, but only a few moments. I never take my phone out of my pocket anymore, just use the stereo's touch screen. Ran some errands just this morning and realized that I don't even think about it anymore. ;)

FWIW, I have the "stock", non-JBL stereo. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work with a JBL system though.

That sounds great. Thanks for the reply and information. I am going to go ahead and order one for my wife’s Escape and one for the truck. I’ll be sure to get the tape, as well.

Does this work with my Android phone (Pixel 7) or is there a different product I need to get?

That one is for Apple Car Play. The same company sells one for Android. High ratings (85% 5 star with almost 1K reviews) but I don't have any experience with it.

    https://www.amazon.com/Teeran-Andro...refix=android+wireless+adapter,aps,140&sr=8-4

Looks like it's on a pretty good Prime Day deal today.

Some other TW members have posted what they're using for wireless Android. A search might turn up some other options.

    Hope that helps!
