Another incorrect fact. Where do you pull this info? The 3.5 is approved to work with 0w20 all the way to 15w40...

Other than the block most internal metals are the same....

The same 4.0 has called for 5w30 for 15 years. Put the same engine in the new 4runner and now it calls for 0w20. It's all about the MPGs.

Incorrect, 0w-20 is mpg based / CAFE and nothing to do with engine design.

I’m literally interpreting it based on the positive comments in the report from the lab.

Amsoil is basically a marketing company. I'll go by what Toyota says over Amsoil.

it’s unfortunate every manufacturer in the US is going this route, this is the proper oil chart for this engine. I’m going to run mobile one European formula 0W-40.

Toyota also says 10k OCI is appropriate for a daily driver but people in here are saying that’s bullshit.
Everyone here just picks and chooses what they FEEL is correct. Hardly anyone is actually sending samples to the lab and seeing what is actually going on inside their motor.

oil is cheap and UOA is not definitive for everyone. I probably will it closer to 5k extraction, 10k filter, since it’s free, but this is me personally. NA engines are not nearly as hard on oil as turbos that suffer from lots of fuel dilution.

And every blackstone sample of a 10k OCI shows the oil in still fine at 10k...

trust Toyota since they build your truck? they certainly wouldn't want your engine to fail due to wear after the warranty expired. after all its only $50 grand for new truck to their loyal customers vs few hundred in oil over the lifetime. we must be wiser than the engineered wear booklet

I’m not sure how often TW members are calling the 10k interval “bullshit”, rather, many feel that if 10k is good, 5K must be gooder. And since gooder is a relatively cheap acquisition in this case, there are folks opting to go in that direction, myself included. Especially folks who are planning on long-term ownership. Do I have engineering data to support my choice? No I don’t. As you said, it just feels like a good idea to me, so I do it. If an oil change cost me $500, you’d better believe I’d go 10k.

Yeah, must be “gooder”. If 6 quarts of oil is good, 12 quarts must be “gooder”.

Exactly. 24 quarts is goodest, so that’s what I go with.

I honestly don't understand the "I know better than the people who are literally experts at this" mentality.

The Taco never got the duel VVT the new 4 Runner has. I WISH it had, Toyota SHOULD have put it in, but they didn't. I had it in my FJC, it definitely had more git up and go and was smoother. I DIDN'T like the oil filter set up or the location of it, the Taco 4.0 had a far nicer design.

I always try to time my changes for 6 to 7 months, which is usually is 6 to 7 thousand miles, on the calendar it’s April/May, and September/October. The oil change in the spring gets the oil out from the winter, and the fall change gets you ready for the winter.

When I had my tundra, it still showed 15k miles was well within spec using mobil1 5w30. I still can't figure why some need to change their oil every 3-5 k miles unless their pouring some recycled crap in their engines.
