I don’t think it was before… maybe a little. Either way the tundra rack was such an improvement from the stock failing rack with shot bushings i may not have noticed.

Anyone removed the pink vent cap things from a gas tank? Im replacing my tank and the new used one is cracked, so if possible, I could swap the old vents on to the new tank. They look to be sealed with some hard plastic or sealant.

Here’s a video of the rag joint / upper intermediate shaft.

I torqued the rack bolts again, and they weren’t any loose. Not sure if they could’ve moved. The rack doesn’t look off center visually.

One big thing to note, is when I looked up the torque for the upper/lower intermediate shaft coupler just outside of the fire wall, as well as the pinion shaft coupler, I found 35nm. I firmly believe that I torqued those 3 bolts when installing the tundra rack, as well as 500 miles later when I re-torqued all the suspension I had off at the same time… however from my recollection and notes I did 20nm. Almost half.

I’m hoping this dumb mistake solved my issues of loosing alignment.
Still — the whole shaft sitting so off center from the firewall hole is odd. I think it’s from where the rack is sitting, pushing the shaft outwards due to the larger size of the tundra rack…

Yah that makes sense to what I was thinking. My setup is +2” so 69 would work. unless I plan to pull it all and slap a 3.5” or 4” front setup. 69” sounds like the money shot. For this truck likely keep it. jD setup could happen but I’ll beat up on the TC more before that happens.

    Thanks! @01 dhrracer

Installed wc 5" over mid travel kit with dirt kings spec Fox 2.5 8". Today on the highway I noticed it's very "bumpy" almost like driving a 90's lowered Honda civic. Still running my Oe bumper. Will be building a tube bumper but that will only be adding 40-60lbs over stock weight up front. Plan to keep the front lite.
From my last rig that ran kings it is very different feeling.
    Any suggestions?

Couldnt agree more. Tuning is everything. Once I get the bypasses, steering and finished weight out front.

I guess I should've asked if others have experienced bouncing with fox?

Haha cool that you actually made a video. That's a bit less movement than mine had but i'm not sure i'd call it good either. On mine the intermediate shaft had about equal amount of play with similar force but the pins wiggled a lot more. But I haven't had a chance to compare to a new one so ultimately idk maybe the rag joints come with as much play as yours has

I ended up finding the 2 bolts that hold the intermediate shafts together, on that coupler just outside the firewall — as well as the bolt that holds the shaft to the steering rack “loose”.
When I originally torqued them down and double checked and 500 Miles later, I had it in my notes they were 20nm…
When I looked it up last night online, I found a diagram that said 35nm…
Not sure where I got 20nm before, but they were all at that. I took them all to 35nm and marked everything.

I am hoping that this dumb mistake allowed the shaft to slip on the pinion spline on the rack - and that’s my problem.

They are part of the tank. You’ll never be able to swap.

Coming back to the width. Should I line up the rear to the front or have it a tad narrower? Rear axle is already bent so measuring is a bit off but front track is 86.5~ and rear is 82~ end to end on the current wheels (4.5" but could be closer to 5" since the rear wheels have some negative camber right now). Most I have seen are 69" or 70" on a +2" - +2.25" setups. One person suggested 67" to keep it narrower than the front. Seems like I should at least have it 3" (68") if not 69" but seeing 70" makes me curious how much this will factor into the turning and overall handling.

    Yes
A narrower rear end creates oversteer ( good in moderation ) whereas and equal width tends to create an understeer ( bad ). I believe most folks would tell you to be 2" narrower in the rear end ( 1" per side ) to create a bit of oversteer = quicker turning
