I've got a 2014 Tacoma that's not pre-wired for a backup camera (the Base Model with the small engine). So, I purchased the full harness from Camera-Source. When I put the truck in reverse, the radio does not even try to display a camera picture. I'm getting the expected voltages at all the appropriate points. Before I plugged the reverse trigger wire into the plug for the radio, and put the truck in reverse, I got 12 volts. The radio just isn't receiving the signal. Any ideas?

Did you ever figure it out? I just bought a 2014 and bought a cheap after market camera and everything seems to be hooked up right but the reverse camera is still not showing when I put it into reverse. Thanks so much.

What headunit are you using? I don’t think the “base” unit has a function to display.

Sorry for the delay. The radio has 86140-04120 on the back. If there is anything else or some other number let me know. Thank you.

Nothing I find on that unit leads me to think it’s anything but a base Entune unit. I’m not aware of them having the ability to have backup camera input. Is there any writing on the front of the unit, “SiriusXM” or the like?

There is nothing at all on the front of the radio. It is a 2014 base regular cab.

Then, unfortunately, I think you’re out of luck on using the stock radio for backup camera purposes. You’ll likely have to look into an aftermarket solution like an Alpine, KENWOOD, Pioneer etc.

You can put a headunit in from an SR5 however you probably don’t the pre-wiring for the camera.
Did you see prewiring inside the tailgate cover.

My truck is a 2015 AC but even with the Utility Package it was prewired for a reverse cam.
I only added an SR5 factory radio to get XM.

The base 2014 entune head unit should have the reverse camera function. Mine works with the aftermarket camera hardware, my truck wasn't prewired and has the stock head unit. Plenty of threads around here on wiring it to work in that year range with the stock set up. Probably a bad connection somewhere? Is the camera only a 6v input?

Just figured this out today. My camera is 12 volt aftermarket. My friend found some obscure article online that says the Panasonic radio scans for video and if it doesn't find it it will lock out the screen from changing into reverse. I have my camera wired into the reverse lights. To test I unplugged the harness for power to the radio until after i started and put it into reverse and now it does work. It still works for now but if for some reason it stops I will wire the camera to constant 12 volt.
