Thinking a dealership is doing something for free is what's funny. If Corporate doesn't fund it, the dealer sure won't.

In the link I gave you might want to at least read post 317. It's my story on my RAV. But it also touches on other stuff I saw happening and how the process works when a vehicle is accepted for repairs. It also points out, as many other posts do, Toyota is repainting literally hundreds of other models, but not Tacomas.

    Why? Who knows.

I would suggest calling corporate, filing a complaint and getting a case number. Enough of that might push them over the edge. Or not.

Ah i see. I’ve been waiting do something about it since I figured it’s a widespread issue and hopefully, eventually it would be a tsb by Toyota.

Im selling the truck now, and every potential buyer likes to complain about it. Trying to give them some hope.

Ive heard that some good dealerships will repaint it for free. Maybe it’s just a fantasy haha

If it's still in the warranty period of the paint, or the area is small enough they can get away with patch work, and they have a multi purchase customer, maybe.

    Out of warranty, pretty much.

What year? My 2007 has that issue, FWIW, it's not just a Toyohta problem it's a paint problem and lots of white vehicles do this. Toyota doesn't make paint; they buy it from paint manufacturers.

If the truck is fairly new you should be able to get some type of relief. Sometimes they will repaint the effected areas if you pay 1/2. If it is older they won't do anything. By the time my 07 started peeling it was old enough that they wouldn't do anything.

It's water based paint, instead of solvent.

I've had a white truck for years, no problems :)

FWIW, I had the same issue(as every white 040 coded taco has)and had good luck with Toyota Escondido. My trucks a 18, so its is beyond normal warranty from corporate. I opened an investigation with corp, they had Escondido evaluate it(had the truck for a day) and sent that info to corporate. Corporate gave the typical "you're beyond 36 MO warranty, not our problem". Luckily, Toyota Escondido knows this issue is prevalent in the Tacos(they've painted quite a few) and offered to paint my truck under "good will" from the dealership(Unsure if this is due to my extensive parts dept history from rebuilding my 80s pickups). I dropped the truck off Monday morning(8/14/23) and picked up yesterday(8/19/23), they repainted 2 doors and 2 fenders that had paint peeling(fenders were almost impossible to see peeling unless removed from truck). The guys at Escondido's body shop are excellent and repainted all problem areas that they could identify. A good attitude and understanding that the "service representative" is only capable of providing info only if it comes from a service tech or body shop rep will make your experience easier. Toyota Escondido has always been easy to work with they have always been open and honest with me. Toyota Carlsbad would'nt even attempt to verify the paint issue, they denied review with the same excuse as corporate(my only experience with Toyota Carlsbad).
