I noticed a loud thumping clanging noise in left rear tonight when I hit a bump. It’s not riding as smooth either. Any ideas?

Check your shock mount, check your leaf springs on that side. Make sure you didn't snap a leaf or worse. Could be a lot of things, post some pictures so we can see.

I’ll post some pics tomorrow. I think I probably just need new shocks. It’s an 03 with 210k on it.

If the shock blew out then yeah that could account for what you're experiencing. If rust is an issue where you live I would make sure to go over it real good and make sure you didn't break a mount or crack a hangar, the frame etc

I don’t notice any rust issues. The frame was coated a long time ago and I don’t think there are any issues with that.

    What kind of coating?

Oil based is good. Stays wet but washes off.

Rubber based, looks good, but everything under the surface is going to turn to crumbly rust powder.

If its got rubberized, sell it. Your car is going to die.

I'm having a similar issue and have ruled out everything short of the rear wheel bearings going out. Parts on order to replace those

I don’t think it’s a wheel bearing. It’s something with the shocks because I can press down on the bumper on the left rear and get the noise.

Yea sounds like shocks or leafs then. Mine only occurs when turning over bumps or inclined/declined surfaces and cannot be replicated by pushing down on the bumper.

Are you also missing the shock bushing? If so I'd make sure the new shocks come with new bushings

No. I have the bushing. I’m gonna replace everything though.

Can anyone tell me if any auto parts store sell the bolt to that goes in the rear shock at the bottom or what part number it is?

Don't know 'bout the part number.

I've had this problem on my 1987 Toyota truck as well as on my current one. On the current one, the top bolt came out and the shock hit the underside of the bed a few times while I was off-roading about 150 miles from home.

To fix it, I replaced the bolt, put some blue Loctite on it, and torqued it to spec (can't recall what the spec was right now). Then I did the same thing to the other bolts holding each shock.

Looks like ToyotaPartsDeal has them for about $3/each. You're local dealer might have them too
