Trying to put a new stereo into my 2006 Tacoma, pretty sure the last idiot snipped the connections to do a diy install without a harness. Now that stereo is broken and I'm left with these bare wires. I've used a multimeter between the brown wire (I presumed its ground after a little digging online) and the red wire while the switch was turned, but no voltage across it. Same story for the other wires. However, there is one extra red wire which was tapped from somewhere behind the dash by the previous person. It's only barely in the picture on the left. It reads a voltage across it and ground, in fact, it fried my stereo prompting a quick replacement when I mistook it for the ignition wire. Now, when that mystery red wire is touched to ground, it makes the wipers start going, I'm stumped on it.

here's the colors someone else located:
    https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=92767

forewarning; every time i follow 'official' posted oem wiring colors, i seem to get the one vehicle that's 75% to that, with a few randoms mixed in for added fun. :/

the theme of any wiring color info is "trust but verify"

i would also highly recommend installing the vehicle-side plug if you have the time to prevent future issues(metra 71-1761 http://metraonline.com/part/71-1761 ). if you do it right now, you'll never need to re-do it, but if you just hack it in, you'll end up in there all the time!
