I've got my starting troubles narrowed down to a faulty transmission range sensor. A month ago I bought a used OEM sensor from ebay. I hoped that it would solve my dilemma. .....it did not. I think that I bought a defective sensor. There are plenty of NEW after market sensors out there, some of which even say:TOYOTA on them. Are the after markets reliable? Some are even made in Germany. What gives?

Yes, it does. There is continuity on the purple wire from the fuse box to the pigtail at the sensor, and continuity on the black/yellow from the sensor pigtail to the starter relay. As space is at a premium at the sensor I cannot check to see if there is continuity between the purple input at the sensor and the black/yellow at the sensor. When the sensor in at P or N there should be a free flow of voltage between the two.....right?

    Hey Folks:

In order to check for sure that my starting problem is linked to the range sensor I bypassed that circuit completely by running a fused jumper wire as shown. With that in place the truck starts normally. Just use this as a check. I wouldn't keep it in place over the long run.

    You got skillz!

I’d bite the bullet and get:
    https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/...-Gear-Position-Sensor/4079775/8454004010.html

Check to see if it’s the right one for your year and model. Sometimes it’s helpful to put that info in your vehicle description.
