I have a 4 speed automatic in my 2008 tacoma SR5 and it is burned up. Do I rebuild or replace? Any help on what models a donor trans would be a match?

I'd talk to a local independent shop and see what they say. Some transmissions are easily and economically rebuilt, and you end up with basically a new one for 1/2 what new costs, some can't be rebuilt.

Then compare that with one from a scrap yard. My local shop will install one for $600-$700. You'll just have to call around and see what one from a scrap yard will cost. Those tend to last a long time; I wouldn't be afraid of one from a scrap yard with 100,000 miles on it.

Crunch the numbers and see which way works best for you where you live.

Mileage? How did it get damaged?

If burned up means it won't go and fluid is black/burnt, that means a full soft pack, probably a convertor.

I'd price a rebuild from a known quality shop. Buying from a scrap yard can work, but it's a hard find and a bit of roll of the dice on quality.
