I've never driven a hybrid but i'm not surprised that heat would affect this.
It makes me wonder if there should be a safety concern with this in regards to the battery overheating and catching fire or something similar?

Last I checked engine coolant keeps all engine/hybrid engines from over heating. Case closed.

Just one man’s experience but I had a Prius V for 4 years, two trips CA to NM through the desert in the summer during that time and never had an issue with the hybrid. Having to turn the car on and off to get the GPS to work multiple times during the trip was fun tho.

The 3rd post down on that gave a text book answer that is probably in the owners manual as well....

"There are certain operating conditions for the battery and cannot supply current if the battery is hot. Unfortunately the battery gets extremely hot inside the cabin. Had the same problems with my black Prius in the summer. To make matters worse, the battery is air cooled so it takes a long time to cool down."

This is really a non issue.

As if I listen to someone who says "there are no victims". Tell that line to Ukraine.

It’s good to know the gas engine drives the air conditioning when it is hot outside.
