I live in Yuma...if I didn't leave the house with temps above 105, I'd never get anything done. 110 + is where I don't want to be out there but as long as the humidity is low it's still not too bad. Start getting above 30% humidity and I'm planning my routes from ac in the vehicles to ac in the buildings. I have a new dump truck at work with a short idle time before it shuts off and the cab heats back up. That sucks! I keep my work truck close by so I can let it idle with the ac blowing all day and give a place to cool off and get fluids back in me. But this time of year I'm able to adjust my start times to as early as I want. I'm usually at work by 4 am and home by 2:30-3:00. That's pretty much how almost all construction works to include a lot of the construction suppliers.

Afternoon Porch Pals & Sue! Can't believe it's not 100* yet! Fine by me! I had to give up this morning with only a brief visit down the import row. Leg and heat told me at the same time - you're toast! Did get to see a special vehicle or two. Photos forthcoming.

Mexican AGRICULTURAL smoke - annual burning fields late Spring. Usually hazy, sometimes actually smoky days for a week. NOTHING like what folks are experiencing from the Canada fires. Once the burning is done, we get Saharan dust in mid-July, riding across the ocean for our viewing pleasure.

Nice pics @MQQSE! And beautiful job with the bench Murray! I got one that sorely needs that treatment.

My one time I visited in July, I found a new use for that handkerchief I always carry ... "oven mitt" for anything I had to touch outside during the heat of the day.

You do have some good Car Show pictures Kurt . Thanks again for posting them up :D

The 63 Chevy Impala brought back memories of the one I had. It was a little rough but ran good. It was a 283 with four on the floor ( I don't believe it was factory) but it worked for me :D.

I live in Northern California in the Sacramento valley where the summers are pretty darn warm. Today 107. All next week upper 90’s to 100’s. Zero humidity here so the high temperatures are more tolerable. We were thinking of heading up to the Sierras for a couple days to get out of the valley heat next week but even up there is going to be in the 90’s. Even Truckee which is at about 6000’ is 95 today. It’s even too warm for the pool. Guess we’ll just hang out in the a/c and watch movies and read.

Ivan, you certainty picked a hot day to shoot trap. I’ve been into shotgunning for 50 years , waterfowl and pheasant hunting and clays. The last year or two cut way back on shotgunning and have gotten back into pistol shooting mostly 9mm, 38 special and 357 mag. I go to the range at least once a week. Really like my 9mm’s and those simi autos really go through the ammo. Been buying 9mm a couple thousand rounds at a time. Found a place in St. George Utah where I can buy 9mm for 22 cents a round. Don’t think I could reload that cheaply. Great prices on other ammo too. Anyway good luck trap shooting, hope you kill a lot of those traps.

22 cents is a great price for 9mm Ken, the cheapest I have gotten is 23 cents a round so when it gets that low I pick up a thousnad or two. 38 special and 357 mag are a lot more expensive so I don't shoot the 357 that often. The closest range to me is a nice well maintained range, but the RSO's (generally young men with an attitude) can be a real pita. They don't allow mag dumping, if you set your empty pistol with the mag out and slide locked back at the slightest angle (no more than 10 degrees) away from the target they are there to let you know. The other range is a little further away but not as many lanes so it can be tough to get in to shoot. When I go upstate to our place I can shoot until the ammo box is empty and no range fees. Makes for a good weekend.
    Enjoy.

Well done. I did a similar bench wih oak from Lowe's. The wood kits they sell online are crazy expensive. The wood from Lowe's was the same width and thickness. Cut to length and got new hardware.

Where I shoot is only 15 minutes away. The RSO’s are generally young but are pretty cool dudes. Some are competition shooters and will offer advice to help you improve your shooting. For a little while I was shooting low and left (a very common problem). One of the guys worked with me and no more low and left.
Ammo in California is expensive, 9mm average 44 cents and up, way up. Ammo is tightly controlled here. Every time you buy ammo a background check is done, every single time. You can only buy ammo from licensed dealers who are also ffl. If you buy ammo over the net it must be sent to a licensed dealer and a back ground check is also done. Almost no one does that. You can’t give ammo to someone else, that is illegal. You can’t legally buy ammo out of state and bring it into California. They really don’t have any way to enforce that. Lots of people here drive to Nevada and load up on ammo. Other states do not enforce California laws and they could care less. Not saying I do that but people do what they have to do. Cabelas is just across the state line in Nevada, the parking lot if full of California license plates and lots of Californians in the ammo department. My wife is from Lancaster Pennsylvania and we’d move back there but she absolutely won’t do the Pa. winters. So I’m stuck doing what I have to do. Just before I retired we looked at some beautiful homes to buy back there but she decided she just can’t leave the California weather (even though her heart is in Pa.)

Most businesses with doors that aren't shaded use pipe insulation, pool noodles and/or baseball bat or golf club grip tape...but I also keep a handkerchief close for that and many other uses.

I got 5/4 decking the old stuff was either mahogany or clear pine. I have the tools do almost any thing. Right now I want to get rid of a radial arm saw. I have a matabo 12" mitre box. Now since I'm retired after I get my shoulder healed I can do vinyl flooring, door and window installation again.

I've got a son in Deadwood that could use some window installation. We put one in a couple of weeks ago, 8x10 feet, but never got to the smaller ones.

Chiggers, ticks, and humidity... I could deal with the humidity but wherever it's humid and hot the bugs are never ending. We'd get 50/100 seed (tiny) ticks on us walking to the mailbox 50 feet from the door. And chiggers are hell and can ruin your life if too many bite you.

    But the fireflies were awesome...

My wife has relatives in Deadwood. I'm Almost 6 months from handling much more than 90 lbs again. I'm up to a 8-10 lbs. What kind of windows is he using structured clad or vinyl ice cube trays. About 7.5 hrs from here.

Pella I think. Heavy as hell. I think the big one must have weighed over three hundred. Not vinyl.

Not windows to be installed with a bad shoulder.

Looks great Murray - nice work! At my old work place (in Tucson) there was a little business called "Antiques of Mexico" across the alley. In those days the border was truly porous and maybe one or two of the guys were US citizens - but that seemed at the time, of little consequence. They were wood workers and often built really lovely hardwood pieces - that would look good finished, in a southwestern design home. None of it came from Mexico. But..... they would take the works into the alley and "distress" the pieces with chains, a torch, paint and paint remover, acid, you name it, 'till they looked a hundred years old. The stuff then went to a shop that claimed to be importing the items and it did quite well. Anyway - my boss showed up with three absolutely rotten, broken benches that he and his sons had "rescued" somewhere, cast iron ends intact but very rusty. He had the antique guys shorten two of the benches into chair size and finish the long bench, all with matching (undistressed) wood work. He later found some other cast iron legs and had them build a coffee table to match. As a set - it was a rather striking and rugged outdoor patio set-up. Every time I see one of those benches for sale at a yard sale - I have to look.........
