I'm going to be in the Matagorda beach area in about a month and have been looking for the best areas to take the truck out onto the sand. I can't seem to find any information that mentions any specific part of the beach to go to but I was watching this Donut media video where one of the guys is in Matagorda driving around some sand dunes. Does anyone know if there is a specific location for these or are they just kind of spread around the coastline?

The beach portion of the video starts at 11:45

Depending on the tide you can go down the beach all the way to Mitchell's matagorda side of Sargent beach. It goes from hard packed to powder them shel bottom to mixed with various drift wood spots. Those are all the differ kinds of conditions you will encounter they change regularly. The dunes themselves are protected for wildlife from birds to sea turtles, there are cuts going through and past the dunes for cattle, that area is a natural habitat for rattle snakes. Don't go to mitchells cut on a low tide the water comes to the dunes edge so you risk getting stranded, best to go when the tide is going out and leave before it comes back in.

Sometimes it's green but mostly brown since the mouth of the Colorado deposits in matagorda. Behind the dunes is sandy, muddy, Don't go behind the dunes with only one truck especially on your first voyage. If you look on Facebook I believe it's called Matagorda Beach rescue in case things go south.

Appreciate all the info! And yeah I later found out that driving on the dunes is illegal, glad I figured that out before it’s too late.

It's a nice place grew up there and still have a small bit of land, can be a bit dirty at times cause of the brazos, San Bernard, Colorado, and tres palacios all drain in the bay.
