Bourbon flippers are a big part of the issue is my point. These "hunters" are buying up the allocated stuff and posting it for sale before they leave the parking lot. It's just lame

Edit - as far as other liquor/alcohol pricing goes, the bigger the sales volume tends to trend on the cheaper side. Smaller stores can't get the bulk pricing deals as the big guys.

That just means the retail price is too low.

So tell me about the select versus a run of the mill single barrel off the shelf? I have one I’d love to crack when I finish off a few more open bottles.

That one is polarizing. I like it, my GF really loves it, but i've known a few people say it's a drain pour. Curious to see what you think. A friend of mine got the Noah's Mill, so interested to try that sometime soon too.

Entirely apocryphal, but I read some post on Reddit a while back from a guy who claimed to have worked in single barrel pipeline at a major distillery. Said for them, at least, there was literally 0 difference from store picks vs standard line single barrels. Said distilling/tasting personnel pulled honey barrels for SiB program and store picks were offered from that stock. Standard label single barrels were produced from the same stock between picks.

    Seems entirely plausible to me.

Was time for new appliances for a few reasons. Didn't know/realize that bottle washers are a thing in new dishwashers. I don't have any bottles to wash but they work really well for my glencairns!

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. Probably the exact same juice, but the “store pick” and age statement vs. the standard NAS SiB makes it feel a bit more special. I haven’t had the regular SiB in a while to compare taste wise. Can’t go wrong with either.

I know a couple store owners or managers who have selected a barrel pick via tastings either personally or via a representative. How the distillery picks the population of barrels to sample and how many can be sampled, no idea. I guess I would be more interested in a barrel pick for a non single barrel product because that would be much more unique. But I’ve heard SUCH good things universally about the Russell’s private selects.

Still kicking myself for passing up an Eagle Rare barrel pick a couple months ago.

Battle of the BiB. I'm a huge fan of EW BiB (and Heaven Hill in general). Just picked up Benchmark BiB. Both are $20. The Benchmark definitely hits way above it's weight. I can't pick one. I love them both!

I've never had a bad Russell's anything ever, but you know how I am about WT.

Round 2 is Peerless Double Oak. This is by far the chocolatiest bourbon I have ever had.

OGD BiB needs to be in that fight.

I've had it. I like it, it's just a little too "smooth" for me. I need a little bite. Lol

After drinking Evan Williams first, the difference of Benchmark really stands out. I smell cherries and taste caramel and cherries. Crazy!
