I had a 2015 DC and now have a 22 AC. The AC fits my needs better.

Get it and never look back: With the long bed it has perfect proportions and styling: drive back over there tonight and camp out or in the morning before they open and park next to it until someone shows up and buy it. Your dog will love having his own space back there.

this brings back flashbacks of my youth. I bought my dad's Dodge Dakota, and while I liked the truck, I couldn't stand those F'n doors!

    Positives of an access cab:

My son can fully recline and sleep on long drives.
My dog has a much better approach to balancing and dealing with rapid stops and acceleration. (Only a 60 pound dog)
My wife hates it because we must take her car when the 3 of us go places together.
No rear seats so when my son starts driving fewer buddies in the truck means less distractions.
More cargo space with the 6’ bed.
Over $10,000 less than a similar DC on the lot when I purchased it. The salesperson didn’t even want to show it to me. After we walked the lot and looked at all the others, I said, “How about that one?” His reply, “Oh, that’s just a work truck.”

Negatives… my wife’s attitude about a vehicle with only two seats. My son says she gets a “tude.”
I can’t think of any other negatives.

Except when you have a Lab, and 99.9% of the time the rear seats are folded down with a huge dog bed on them. (and the sliding rear window is open) Any dog that works hard enough to bring back every bird >every time< deserves to have half the truck at his disposal.

Just needed to train him to wait. My BC gets excited AF, but waits for "his" door.

He was a BC as well, smart dog, had a bad hip at the end and wanted the path of least resistance. So I had pick him up many times well. The other reason I had to shut the front door was for him to get past it.

AC all the way... the 6 foot bed is worth it.

Wife wanted me to buy a Tacoma - I was like WTF do I want with a Tacoma - So we can haul lumber she said....
I humored her and took one for a drive - liked it - discovered I still had the key in my pocket and had to hurry back to return it.
On the way out the door she tossed me the checkbook and said Don't Come Home Without It....

She's always right - I love that thing.... and I look good in it too.

Camping is now a breeze - toss 'stuff' into the bed, hitch up the teardrop - soon I'll have the platform for the rear-seats so we
can insert the Dometic CFX3 35 and set the Jackery 1000 Pro into the foot-well on the other side - and go... just go....

98% of the time it's just me - 2% of the time it's me and the wife - kids are gone - so we don't need no DC.

Get it before it's gone. Absolute worst case scenario is it will retain or rise in value when the 4th Gens hit the streets.

Go for it. If you want a 4 door buy a sedan. I have a platform in my back seat and my dogs love it. It's also great for hauling things with such a large surface. Get a 2023 model while the rear doors still swing open though.

Tony, assuming your current truck is 4x4, the only reason I could see to trade what you currently have for an AC would be for either a long bed or an AT, otherwise I think you would be smart to keep what you have. I'm sure the dog will still be perfectly happy in the DCSB, as long as he/she is with you in there. :) That's MHO.

I had an XtraCab (way back…), and love the Access Cab.

For me, the 6’ bed was a must. I looked at the DCLB. The back seats were really tight, so the extra cost and longer wheelbase weren’t worth it to me.

I expect you’re still at dealer, waiting for them to open in the morning. Good move. Post pictures of your new truck tomorrow. Your dog will thank you!

Get the AC cab if you drive in summer. Same capacity air conditioner with only 2/3rds the space to cool. Your dog will thank you for that since windows do not roll down in the rear. Only thing I dislike is there are no storage cubbies behind the rear seats for hiding things like laptops.

^^^ This is the correct answer. OP said talk him out of buying it, not talk into it. You keep what you have because it's fairly new and a great truck. You're sitting pretty as we roll into the 4th gen. You have plenty of time to see if the 4th gen is a good truck and worth the $. If it's not, you're in a good spot because you have a great truck with plenty of life left. If gen 4 is for you, you didn't hop between new trucks every few years and lose some depreciation and the extra costs that go along with a new truck purchase. If OP said confirm I should buy this new access cab, some very good arguments were made. One of the best ones is the access cab doors won't open next year. That's kind of huge deal breaker if you're in the market for an access cab. I remember back in 2000 or so when Tacoma didn't have opening access cab doors and the double cab wasn't out yet. Seems like we're stepping backward on loosing access cab opening doors in '24.

The chicks I hang out with are small enough to haul a couple dozen home from the feed mill in the Access Cab rear seats from the feed store in the spring. Otherwise the rear seat was to be occupied by the border collie who knows the schedule better than we do.

Had an AC, got a DCLB,m and immediately went back to an AC (wallet was not happy). It drives significantly better with the shorter wheelbase IMO. My dog doesn’t really mind either way.

Also, as others have mentioned, the 4th gen AC’s will be a significant downgrade for a variety reasons.

Better go get it if you want it.
    It’s probably bought by now.

when I was looking for a truck online, I noticed if I didn’t jump on the truck it would be gone after 2 days ..

If they meet your needs for a truck, they're reliable, nice looking, and have a 6 foot bed. If they are affordable, who needs that shit
