It was time for a new truck so naturally I started looking for a new Tacoma. I went on the two nearest dealer web sites and all I found was generic pictures of Tacoma's that may or may not be in stock, with enormous dealer mark ups of $5,000 to $7,000 above the sticker price. What's up with that?
I then checked out the local Nissan dealers and found several actual trucks to choose from. Dozens of pictures of the actual truck, Sticker prices, actual window stickers with the complete list of options and MSRP. No additional thousands of dollars just for the privilege to buy the truck.
When I test drove it I couldn't believe the solid feel and comfort, quiet ride, power. I bought it, under msrp sticker price. For me it was an easy decision because toyota made it almost impossible for me to buy another Tacoma.
    Thanks for listening.IMG_1449.jpg

Nice. I think they're pretty good trucks.

I loved my old Nissan hardbody, but the new ones post French merger had issues with the coolant mixing with the oil, and the trans fluid mixing with the coolant via the trans cooler lines being in the radiator

I hope their trucks are still as stout though, their styling has always been a notch above Toyota IMHO

Was that pre-2020? Because that's when they paired the 3.8 V6 with the 9-speed transmission, it was carried over to the 3rd gen in 2022.

It was vaguely in 05-09, there was a bad run of radiators.

172k on my 07, only complaint is the turning radius. Everything else has been solid.

Looks just like a Tacoma OR. Seems like a no-brainer decision unless you were willing to wait (and pay) for the 4th gen.

My Tacomas never let me down. I just don’t know what Toyota is thinking.

    Money

Manufacturers have learned that they can maximize profits by keeping inventory and production levels down

Combine that with the popularity of the Tacoma, and we have the current market

    Nice Looking truck!
I drove a 2000 Frontier for nearly 20 years/200K Miles when i traded it for my Tacoma.
I wouldn't have any issue if i had to get another Frontier someday.

People tend to forget that Nissan is just as legendary as Toyota (older even)

rotated tires changed oil threw out the old air freshener.
When shopping for a truck that led to the purchase of a 2021 Taco AC, I really wanted to buy a Datsun. But they were just too ugly, (This year's are OK) and did not offer a stick.

    So, there is that.

Son bought a used 2004 4wd last July. Had 90 couple thousand miles. Paid $10K. He was looking at used 2nd Gen Tacomas with under 100K miles. Couldn’t touch one for under $25K. Been a good truck so far. I do like the original small pick up size.

Had a 2000 Frontier that had 212K on it when I traded it in on a 2006 Frontier NISMO in 2009. The 2009 worked fine until 150K when it got the dreaded SMOD and I had to replace the trans and radiator. After that it was a slow cascade of problems that got to the point I was never sure I’d make it out and back even on short drives. Started, during covid, the painful process of searching for another vehicle. Took until June 1 of this year when a 2013 Tacoma one owner with lots of service records and only 100K rolled into a local small dealer. On the way to see it the Nissan started losing power and bucking, and the check engine light came on. Test drove the Tacoma and signed on the line.

Yes they are . They always were slightly cheaper in price . I myself had a 97 hardbody and a 01 pathfinder that went 311 k miles and the only reason I got rid of it was the strut towers rusted away
Overall awesome vehicle. No complaints at all . They ruined those when they went to unibody
