My friend got one of these not too long ago. The sound alone adds +20 hp.

Joking aside, it sounds cool, lol

I realize I'm bumping an old thread with my first post which is committing two cardinal sins in the world of automotive forums, but...

    1. I've been in the Toyota off-road community for 20 years (T4R.org, ClubLexus, Lexus Enthusiast, Toyotanation, etc)
    2. I come from 4 4Runners and a GX 460, so BOF Toyotas are what I know best
    3. I just ordered a 2023 TRD Off Road Premium that'll arrive next month
    4. On my last 5th gen 4Runner, I decided to install the TRD CAI and did a series of dynos to confirm the results after so much back and forth on T4R about what it was or wasn't actually good for. I've noticed a lot of people here have asked for dynos to prove what the TRD CAI does or doesn't do and while I know (A) The 1GR-FE is not the 2GR-FKS and (2) There are a number of differences between a full-time 4WD 4Runner Limited and a 2WD Tacoma, I figured I would share these for those who are curious:

    TRD CAI + Borla Exhaust:

TRD CAI + Borla Exhaust + URD MAF Calibrator:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRjfw2znYfQ

Dyno results are in the video descriptions if you're curious.

Anyway, like many others have mentioned in this thread for the Tacoma, the TRD CAI made a bigger difference in throttle response than it necessarily provided a major boost in power. I know many here have owned both, but in my experience driving 3GTs, the Tacoma's 6AT is much faster to shift than the 4Runner's 5AT. There's a lot of love here for the 1GR-FE and after owning two 4Runners, I'm not really sure why . I think the engine is decent enough but the 5AT is so old and slow to shift, respond or do anything. The TRD CAI helped this a lot and there's no way I could own another 4Runner without it.

Anyway, my Tacoma arrives next month and I went ahead and ordered the TRD CAI based on the info in this thread and my previous experience with TRD CAI on 4Runners.

    @geckornr

I'm the type of owner that would buy the Intake Kit because I think it makes the engine bay look "fancy".

I've also updated my truck with OTT Tune so it is much better with torque on the fly.

With your test results/opinion, I would take it to heart. It would only improve my confidence in the purchase too.

If I could get a discount on the kit, that would be even better!

Last I checked, it was over $350+ threshold. If it hits near $200, I'd be all over it.

Toyota just gave me $1000 parts & service credit, I was thinking about getting one of these but it states 2016-2022. Anyone know if it'll fit a 2023?

It should. I don't think anything has changed from 22 to 23 model for TRD intake fitment.

Is there any benefit in just putting the TRD filter in other than being reusable? Or just stick with the paper filter

Not really. I have the TRD intake and went back to the paper filter. Cheaper and easier to deal with.
