Is there anything that needs to be done when changing the battery in a 2018 Taco? I was told the computer could be affected if the correct procedure isn’t used.

Just replace as normal but don’t start it once the new one is connected.

cycle the key on or push button twice without holding the brake pedal.

this gives the system time to figure out throttle position and for the radio to boot properly.

Once the radio is fully loaded, go ahead and start it. Done.

I’m not aware of any thing this complicated to change a battery … just wondering where are u getting this information from ? Not trying to be a jerk … I have never heard this before . It’s just a simple swap and you’re done .. far as I’m aware the system doesn’t lose information or get corrupted from a change in the battery .

I’m a veteran Toyota dealer tech.

this applies to all models with electric throttles, going back as far as 2003.

It doesn’t hurt anything if you skip this, it just typically has to learn the idle longer.

Entune radios have a high rate of failure so not interrupting the boot up is a good idea as well.
The current generation Toyota wants time between battery connection and disconnect to ensure no issues with software. They encourage long delays with process.

While i agree with you, if i remember right, my radio did not just go to my MP3 USB as it always does.

I've disconnected and reconnected my battery tens of times, and never had an issue. However, others have had things like the power window auto up/down stop functioning correctly. Not sure what they're doing to cause that, if anything at all.

best way to get a new battery.
gather all the tool needed to change it.
go to Costco or wherever and first make sure they have the correct replacement.
then in the parking lot remove the old battery and bring it in and exchange for new one.
install new battery in the Parking lot. IMO!

I had my stock one die and almost got stuck in Arches NP because of it. Took it to O'Reilly's and did a simple swap. If there was a more proper procedure, I didn't know about it and haven't had any issues.
