Who hates chrome?

Geez, i created a good thread, i see everyone has their own taste

 

The first mod I made to my 16 was ditch that horrible chrome grill. Then de-badge it.

 

I Even added a polished stainless hitch plug on mine.

 

Some never grow up.

 

Chrome looks great on a 57 Chevy and other cars from the era because of the styling. But cars today look different. Styling has changed. And in my humble opinion chrome accents don't work like they did on the other cars from the 50's / 60's.

 

Chrome looks terrible on modern plastic vehicles. On any model/generation that debuted after the 80's it's completely out of place.

 

Just a quick note on "chrome". "Chrome plating (less commonly chromium plating) is a technique of electroplating a thin layer of chromium onto a metal object." Electroplated. Metal dipped in a chrome solution. The stock bumpers on my 2021 are not metal. They are plastic. That "chrome" peels off the underlying plastic if breached or damaged. . It is fake chrome. Some kind of mirror finish plastic. To be deleted!

Smith and Wesson 27 Revolver in all chrome - looks sexy.
Glock with Chrome Accents looks tacky.

If it's plastic and tactical (I think the styling on our trucks counts) then it shouldn't have chrome.

 

What?!?!? You don't love anodized triggers and polished aluminum mag wells on polymer pistols?

 

Still the chrome finish on those plastic rear bumper ends with a black painted truck looks far better than those bumper ends painted black. Makes it look like toyota cheaped out.

 

Chrome accents modern vehicles.

I hate it. I wish someone made black badges for my 07.

That being said, i'm also one of those people who wouldn't be opposed to doing an entire chrome wrap /Hydrodip of my vehicle. it would have to be the entire vehicle, though. Just to be obnoxious.

 

I don’t like chrome either (real or fake) and don’t care for badges or stickers. My hard to find ‘22 config came with the overpriced blackout package, and so far I haven’t been able to take the leap and de-badge what I just paid $400 for. I removed the TuRD stickers and have kept (for now) the black badges. Also considering blacking out interior, but again the cost is an issue.

 

Admittedly, it is not paint over the plastic chrome, but rather plastic covers that can be removed if necessary.... but I get your point.
As this entire thread suggests... it is a matter of personal taste.

I'm 70, and get the feeling this younger generation doesn't appreciate anything that appears to look bright, and cheery....everything has to dull, drab, and sinister looking. I like a clean look, but there is a madness of going too far.

Gor me, Chrome has it's place, like on a vintage car or a cruiser (motorcycle) or something custom. It needs to be done "correctly". Toyota does not do it correctly, IMNHSO.

I have a silver truck. Silver and Chrome do not go together, just like navy blue socks do not go with black shoes (or worse yet, white socks with black shoes).

First thing I did when I got my truck was got rid of the chrome grille.

Chrome was cool in it"s day but went out with disco ball for me. Not that I liked disco. I've been a fan of matte colors and blackout badgeing before it even became popular. I powder coated my first '12 Tacoma SR5 wheels and plasidipped my badges. Traded it in 2018.
