I am hoping there is a owner or tech who can tell me if the front brake caliper extension line is serviceable. If so, part # if able. 2010 Tacoma. 4.0L. Automatic. I appreciate any help. [IMG]

    4 run, 2 don't
    Hard line?

    They're replaceable.

Can make your own or just get one new from Toyota.

    (Holy fucking rust)

Nothern New York winter salt. I prefer Toyoto OEM if possible.

Liquid wrench & line wrenches suggested. It might still not come apart.

The threaded ends of the hard line actually looks kinda OK compared to the caliper and line itself. Perhaps a little heat would help (not too much).

Though for me PERSONALLY, if my caliper was that fugly, I would just replace them too.

I wonder what the FRAME looks like...

If you have a flaring tool and tube bender, you can just squiggle your own out of nicop tubing. In fact if you use nicop, one of those cheap hand benders that's essentially a spring to surround the tubing would work fine (though you still have to flare the ends with the fittings).

PLUS, nicop = no more rust! In fact, your truck will likely crumble around the the nicop over time from rust, leaving the tube connected to piles of rust (the fate of Tacomas, unfortunately).

I've delt with this condition (rust and corission) for 30 years. It could maybe be saved but not worth the time and bull. I've gotten to the point in my carrier were it gets cut and the fittings removed by socket and replaced. That simple. Northern Adirondack salt winters destroy everything.

    Been there...

Tried cutting out the pins...nope...just removed the whole thing and used it as the remand/core for 2 calipers...easiest $60 decision ever...

Now I grease and rotate the pins when I do oil changes

The frame was done about 5 years ago. It's actually a friend's 2010. Not my 2018. I work for a Chrysler, Dodge, Ram Jeep dealership. But we work on just about everything. Tacoma's more than outlast any Chrysler Product.

So as asked in another thread, why doesn't anyone market stainless pins? It would be more expensive, but would make up for it by longevity.

I’m amazed treefortrichard’s brakes still worked. OP update us if you’re able to get the old line out of the caliper.

I need to stop complaining about the TX heat. Glad to avoid the salt and ice treatment all you folks up north have to deal with along with the destruction to your vehicles.

The left side rotor actually separated or broke where the hat for the studs meet the rotor surface. The wheel and hat turn but the rotor stopping surface doesn't. That's what brought him in for brake work. I'll attach a video clip when I get it in for repairs next week.

(those calipers are practically growing barnacles! Looks like…)

IMG_0553.jpg Did this repair a few months back. Truck was driven while leaking for about a week until I could get a replacement hard line. Ended up :spending: and did a full upgrade.
