I got a 97 Tacoma, 4x4 3.4L Automatic Transmission with Manual Hubs, with a bad transfer case. I couldn’t find any threads about replacing the transfer case, probably because they rarely go bad..

Anyways does anyone know the part number for a new transfer case that would fit? Or the specifications for what I should be looking for, 23/26 spine etc.

Any good places to buy from would be appreciated too.

    Thanks!

    What is not working?

Just curious just how did you manage to break it ?

They can be pretty bullet proof.

@Bivouac Lol ya, I bought it that way. So I don't know what caused it to break, my guess would be the chain or something but don't know for sure. Hubs and all that works there's just no power being sent up to the front..

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Then it turns out that something minor is wrong like the case stuck in neutral.

    Best $300.00 4x4 I ever bought.

I hope you paid no more then $500.00 with almost new tires.

    Good Luck!

I guess it's like the rear or front diff, there is a perceived degree of complexity to the thing for some. In my case, because of a crushed mounting hole (where 1 bolt passes through the transfer case and threads into the adapter/extension to mate to the transmission), seller refunded me nearly the full cost instead of eating the shipping cost. So the transfer case cost me 30 or 35 bucks. I said screw it, learning lesson potential, let's take the toyota docs and crack it open and learn. Replaced ALL of the bearings and seals and sent it on its way. So far so good.
Only issue I had was with the synchronizer ring sticking. Tried everything. That and those damned shifting keys. So, just left them out. No big thing. Have to put it into Neutral or Park or turn off the engine when shifting into 4L but whatever, it works and I rebuilt it myself. Had never opened one up before. Good times.
