Just installed a gas strut for my hood. I should have done this years ago! It took like 10 min to install. That includes opening the package and figuring out how to properly install it! Lol

to answer questions, it’s a single strut from a 70lb kit. So 45lbs.
I discovered one was plenty to keep it open and the hood is sturdy enough where the tork from a single strut should be inconsequential.C5133432-A8FF-4B3F-98EE-4E21A15911AA.jpgI’d add a video, but the admins don’t allow it! :p

Why not a pair. That is a lot of stress on a single strut. I would worry about eventual stress on lifting the hood by 1 corner. Had them on my last 2 trucks.20180313_192804.jpg spiker eng hood struts.jpg

Boxed some new ebay special spindles(these were actually beefier by about .050" everywhere than OEM) with some RC Fabrication gussets then lost steam before epoxy primer. That will be another day.. There was some slight tweaking required but that's the nature of the beast with most weld together kits. All in all I'm very impressed with the design and fitment. Highly recommend.

Rear shocks swapped for 5100. Originals lasted 14 years and 126k still ok (not good), but bushings were toasted. Oil change, MAF, and throttle body cleaning. Ordered air and cabin filters for next oil change.

Tomorrow could be the big day to cut my bedsides!

Measuring, making sure it’s level, should be interesting with a 1” body lift. Plan on cutting 15/16” instead of the full inch just to give me that little bit of room to play with while adjusting the rear bumper.

Tomorrow I’ll finalize all of the measurements and cut. This is just a rough draft and everything seems to be nice and level. The way the bed is designed, it played tricks on my eyes…doubting myself if it’s level lol!

Ha lol thanks. Just moved into this place couple months ago. I made the mistake of taking the country girl to the city (6 years ago) and she has been jonesing to move back to the country. She also kept telling me I needed a shop, all my guys I work with have “shops” and she felt I needed one too. One of the guys I worked with retired and moved to Oklahoma and we bought his house and it came with a 1500sq ft shop (30x50) full insulated, HVAC, two bays, 10k challenger lift, upright 60gallon air compressor, 240 and 115 for welders etc. whole shop is plumbed for air with hoses and reels. Has a half bath two industrial fans garage door openers, epoxied floors

House is 1850 sq ft 3 bedroom 2 bath, double car garage ever thing sits on 3/4 acre

Once I saw it I agreed I need a “shop”! Didn’t realize what I have been missing all these years.

I am green with envy. I have a 24 x 24 2 story garage. Have separate 200 amp service with a meter. Water lines are stubbed in. Was supposed to be a 24 x 30 however the city failed to recognize an easement and made me change plans after the footing was dug. Built it around 20 years ago. Had this great idea of putting a 12 inch x 24 foot i-beam across the ceiling for hoisting. I realized nearly immediately that I should have left 1 bay a full 2 stories tall, ditched the i-beam plan, and installed a lift. I have 60% open for vehicle work with 40% as a machine shop. I do have 2 opposing window a/c units and 2 overhead heaters. Been thinking of adding another single story half bay for an office and bath. Now retired, with a bit of arthritis, I really regret not having a lift. The position of the i-beam has been of zero use to me. Every time I had to make a heavy lift I ended up making a trap door in the upstairs floor and anchoring a chainfall upstairs from a temporary short steel 4 x 4 beam. I really appreciate what I have but that lift would have really paid for itself. Now that my 3 kids are grown and gone I have this big 4 bedroom house, for my wife and I, and a decent shop. I do have access to some cheap land in Florida and, maybe one day, I will build a smaller house and a monster shop like yours. The older I get the more time I spend in the shop than in the house.
