I didn't realize just how useless the rear seats were in ANY tacoma configuration until I actually had one a few weeks. I'd get the AC for the longer bed, assuming everything else is what you'd want (engine, drive, transmission, trim...) I plan to pull the rear seats out of mine in the not too distant future. One thing at a time.

Mine is definitely noisy, but I know that the rear panel and lack of well, anything other than thin plastic seats with a strip of fabric, is a huge source of noise too. I'm considering a sound deadening project at some point even if it only helps a bit.

Two 55lb hounds fit great in the AC! They're both husky and anything else crosses, so they curl up with the best of 'em to have a nap. It's surprising how small one dog is, but her weight is mostly muscle from being a bit pittie cross lol. No

That might be your preference but mine is the AC load/unload for my dog.

I would not have any concerns either if I owned one because it would seem clear that from an engineering standpoint, you just can't remove those two massive
components without compensating for them elsewhere in the body, frame, roof etc to maintain the integrity of the platform. My son's AC feels no different off-road than my DC. Both solid.

OK OP, you definitely don't want one of these. Get the one that's half mini van instead...........

The 2nd Generation looks so much better with 3rd Gen alloy Off Road wheels compared to the stock steel rims... (Installing seat covers is cheaper, since you can ignore the rarely used rear seats, which are mainly used for dogs, groceries, other merchandise, a jump box (on the floor), and more...) This one's definitely a truck, SR5 DLT purchased by Dad at 80, so this dad is now taking care of it for his kids. Dad's Last Truck.

Both of my dogs can get in and out quite easily of my access cab, even on 33" tires. From ground to seats it's pretty damn tall but neither have an issue if they really want in. My older dog of 9 1/2 years old hops with zero effort, my younger dog at 4ish will hum and haw and act like she can't so I lift her in, but she's genuinely fully capable. She's just a princess.

I would assume with the length removed from the roof probably helps a fair bit, how much I couldn't say. I agree though, to maintain safety there has to be some sort of compensation somewhere. In the IIHS reports the access cab has a good rating for side impacts, however, the double cab had a Good rating at first but it was updated and given a Moderate rating at some point thereafter. There were no updates for the AC rating shown in the AC panel.

I wonder if they just haven't bothered to update the crash ratings of the access cab as they move away from that chassis entirely? I went as far back as 2017 but I couldn't find when they did the updated test... I didn't look hard, though.

If you can find an access cab grab it, they seem to be pretty nil here in SWNH, I really like my Access Cab, and want to find a 2023 but not sure it will happen Inked20230716_141453.jpg
