So I’m a big Subaru guy
    (Member #487 on NASIOC )
Car Guy/very mechanical (have to be to have a 1998 USDM RSTi….meh)

so I have always been in awe of the bulletproof Tacoma.
This is confirmed by the market prices of said trucks.

Been out looking for my 14yr old for YEARS. One of my race friends Dad has a 96 2.7L.
For the last 4 years, I would always make it known that I would buy the Taco from him.
Started at $2500 pre covid, then last year the offer price was at $4k. Basically, every time they had a crawfish boil I would have a fruitless talk with the dad.
Last week out of the blue, the dad calls me……”it’s yours”

I started to negotiate price from our last conversation
Dad was steadfast…would not talk about price (????)
Dad kept on saying “it’s yours for your son”
    Dad delivered the truck today
    Would not accept any payment.

I called my race friend(the son of the Dad). I just didn’t want to take the truck for free. Son told me he has been talking about giving me the Taco for 2yrs.
    That made me feel better

1st order of business is to address the ‘kinda’ no start condition after truck gets hot.
    Also valve cover gasket.

Another race friend in CA has a Taco too. For no start when hot, He advises to start with cleaning throttle body/distributor/PCV valve.

    Any other suggestions?

I’m about to go down rabbit hole here searching……

Still all in my head… but I’m keeping the chrome bumper!
You should buy him a case of beer every year on the anniversary of him giving it to you! Hella rad that worked out and enjoy the rig.

I’m thinking I will buy him a Green Egg and just deliver to the Dad’s house.

I mean you just don’t hear about graciousness like this
(1st priority, not making $$ but having the vehicle go to good home)
I’m still in awe of the situation
