I've been putting this off for about a year, seals gone bad, fluid in the boots, oil spot is getting bigger and bigger on my driveway, always drive around with a bottle of trans fluid. What's the latest best source for a rack? I read here NAPA is OK, I just got back from there and they happened to have one in stock for around $450 after trading the old in but I'd like to keep the old one, maybe I can rebuild it someday. So then it'd be around $600 if I kept the old rack. Any other suggestions, recos. I've read some other posts and comments but, maybe somebody has something new I haven't heard or read before. It's about time for a new car but it looks like I may keep that taco for back-up and haul jobs.

I put a napa reman in 2 years ago. It hasn’t given me an issue since. I’d do it again if I blew it before the truck goes belly up.

If you're going to swap it you may want to look at upgrading to a newer version, regardless of where you get it from. I think after '00 (don't quote me) they updated the guide style and the newer ones are much more robust. Lots of info about it on here if you search a little.

In a similar boat here, and I too wanted to keep my old one, partially out of cheapness but also for schedule incase something went wrong when I did the swap. I found one that should fit with the new guide style from a 4runner at a local salvage yard for $100. Got a new seal kit for it too (to rebuild before swapping it in) but the 'new' one doesn't show any play or signs of leaking so Im going to leave well enough alone for now rather than taking it apart and risk screwing something up. Hoping to do the swap in the next month or so, so we will see how it goes.

Haha, you see me better than I do, I've turned my house into a hoarder house, one more steering rack's not going to be noticed. I just tell people I'm moving, for the last 10 years.

Thanks Area51, I didn't even think to look for an oem part due to assumed prices and warranty like that. I think I'm going to order.

Yes tcq. if I do this myself, I'm going to keep the old one at least for a while for reasons you mentioned.
