The only way to lock/unlock my tailgate is with a physical key. The big key is way easier to use versus fishing the little one in and out of the fob. Especially if you have real man hands.

    Lol okay big guy.
The crippling affliction of sausage fingers strikes again! Another poor soul with no dexterity struggles to exist in a world of products designed for lady fingers

Just a few accessories, mud flaps, bed cover , racks, seat covers, ….
I think , the main idea is to prevent tailgate theft.

I’m not telling anyone to leave their tailgate unlocked. This whole thread reads like people think there’s a different lock in the tailgate.
I was confused as to why people aren’t using the same key/fob that they use to open the doors and start the truck, and got an answer I suppose

Thanks I really like the rims and really easy to clean. My last car you had to use your finger and a thin wash mitt to get behind many spokes. It took me longer to clean the rims than it did the car lol.

I'm sorry if I made you feel like someone pissed in your Wheaties by starting a thread with such a "stupid" question. I appreciate all the folks who enlightened me about the fob and tailgate keys hidden within. I didn't think I'd need to justify my need for full-sized keys but here goes.

Until I can get diagnosed and probably have surgery my right hand is pretty much incapacitated. Gone are the days of dropping or retrieving anything from my right pocket. In the winter I'm forced to weigh the time/cost-effectiveness of taking at least five minutes to glove my right hand before shoveling or blowing snow. Removing the small key from the fob is a struggle.

So I'm sorry if my inquiry about wanting another large key "kills you". Walk a mile in my shoes...

No need and don't apologize. I understand and feel for you. Some others just like to be critical and small.

Thanks. Healthwise ('cept for the finger thing) I'm in damn good shape.

It's been a humbling (but needed) lesson to actually experience some struggles and to understand the plight of those less fortunate.

I spent the afternoon yesterday waxing the new toy. Gonna do the first oil change this afternoon. Those things take longer to do and sometimes tools get dropped but that's life.

I truly appreciate reading the posts of others to this thread and learning from them!

Keep in mind that same guy works himself into a frothing rage over the placement of the volume controls on the steering wheel. And don't you dare suggest it ain't that big of a deal.

Also, welcome to the Dupuytren's contracture club.

Yeah, I really ought to have something done about that one of these days.

Is having an OEM tailgate remote lock installed a possibility? The way I normally unlock my Taco is to put my hand around the door handle. I have it set so that this unlocks all the doors and the tailgate. When I lock the door (just tap the handle), it also locks the tailgate. My keys stay in my pocket, no need to fish them out.

Best of luck with the hand. I know the problem of having your hand hurt - in my case arthritis in the area next to my thumb. Makes some things really difficult to do.

LOL! Does this make us charter members? I was checked for that and it's kinda ruled out. We've been busy with a relocation move of 400 miles and other "stuff" that I didn't want to be laid-up from. YUP! I really need to have something done about that one of these days/months/years! Take care!!!

Ya but a blank is $35 and cutting is $20. That's +- $55 that should have been 2 keys provided on a $40k + vehicle.
