Tacoma headlight randomly turning on.

Hi all,
New Tacoma owner here! Never owned a truck at all until now actually. I’ve always wanted a tacoma and finally got one.
Anyways,
Im having issues with my headlights, they randomly turn on (full blast) after the truck is parked for hours. At first I thought a door wasn’t closed all the way and I would close everything and lock up. To which it turned off.
But it keeps happening more frequently, just randomly turning on and off. Anyone else having this issue? How can I resolve it? Only had this truck for 3 weeks.

that's strange, do you have any aftermarket LED's, or other electrical doodads? If so, I would start there.
If that doesn't work, your profile says you have a 2022, I'd just take it to the dealer.

 

After several hours off your truck will purge the emissions system charcoal canister. If anything like aftermarket lights are plugged into something that powers up when that happens they will come on too.

I don’t believe I have any aftermarket products on my truck but I’m not savvy when it comes to car parts. I will be taking it to the dealer asap. My right headlight has begun to dim randomly and flash back on. Also the USB port on the lower dash stopped working momentarily. Something electrical going on for sure.

ok, yeah the dealer would be best, as I am assuming it's still under warranty if it's a 2022 like your profile says.
If you bought it used, there could be aftermarket items added, but if you bought it,,, it should be stock, or any addons should have been added by your dealer and then can still handle repairing their own work.

 

welcome.....is anything on the dash covering the sensor?

 

Hi guys, back for an update.
There were all kinds of loose wires and connections under the hood pertaining to the lights. Whoever bought it new had some sort of after market LEDs situation happening. The connection was bad and for whatever reason that I don’t necessarily understand would cause the lights to turn on randomly. So everything is replaced as of now and working well.

Do you have the auto bright headlight switch in the on position ?

 

Yes, per @fathomblue, once in a while you may hear a light buzzing sort of sound coming from under the bed after it's been parked for a while. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks for reporting back. So often folks come here looking for advice, get it and just disappear.

So curious, did they replace the entire headlight assemblies or... Also wondering, did they charge you or was it under a dealer warranty of some sort?

 

Glad they fixed it!
I was highly suspicious of this, but glad they were able to reverse the fuckery some hack did in their driveway.

My headlights do the same thing, randomly though. I changed to Alpha Rex NOVA series and then I've noticed they turn on randomly. I've caught it like 6 times so far. My connections are fine though, as I installed them myself. Is there any way to fix this? Can I remove the charcoal cannister? haha I do it on all my motorcycles.

 

Man, I don't have a clue what circuits trigger the purge though I'm sure there are others on TW that do. I suppose you could remove it but I bet you would cause a host of other problems that would make you sorry you did.
