Some people are like that prime example . 5 year old used part . I will sell it for $20.00 less then today`s price Much more then it was when new.

 

A testament to Miller…

bought this 251 in 2010 for $400 while I was broke and in welding school. Until today, I had not once changed the liner or even the nozzle lol. The trigger has been acting up for a while now, but it finally died last week. So I found a brand new Miller mdx-250 15ft. whip on eBay for $318 shipped. What an improvement that is going to be

The handle on the front broke off around 2013, and the front panel has been deteriorating ever since. Finally said it fuck and tore the rest of it off. Gonna make a new handle at some point… maybe.

Point of this is that these things are tanks. Other than getting the panels pulled and a good blow out with the air compressor every 2 years maybe, these things need little maintenance. I’ll probably have this thing for another 13 years at least.

 

I hope the new Guns are better then the old guns They were junk .

Those are some of my favorite machines. For $100 or less, you can probably pick up a new liner, switch, head tube, diffuser, and consumables to rebuild that old gun assembly for a quality backup. The new MDX guns are nice ... but the diffusers are trash. Do not over tighten the new contact tips. Miller missed the mark on the diffusers and contact tips this time around, unfortunately. Otherwise the new guns have been good.

I have had Good luck with the Profax and Tweco Guns.

I use the 180 amp guns and run .023 wire for most everything.

When I get serious I switch feeders to the one set up for .045 with the 400 amp gun.

 

Yeah ... we are running about 25 of the MDX guns and they arent bad. They have held up well to some abuse, but the diffusers are the biggest problem and have taken a step back from prior versions.

For the folks that never change a diffuser and contact tip, they will be fine. But for those of us that regularly change consumables, the design missed the mark. The tips are ok during use, but easily seize in the diffuser ... so when you swap a tip, its seized and pulls the diffuser with it. Then there are no wrench flats on the diffuser, only two super shallow slots on the back that require you to fab up a SST out of 14 ga and they strip super easily.

Its definitely a miss on the design and implementation IMHO ... but again, everything else on the assembly is just as good or better than the older style guns.

Tweco is also my favorite for small guns, Tregaskiss is my favorite HD gun.

I actually fired up my TIG welder yesterday and fusion welded the two halves of my CNC stainless water table together to eliminate any more water leaks. I had a small drip which was the 2nd leak since assembling with the silicone that Langmuir sends with the tables.

No pics because it was ugly with all the mess from the silicone between the flanges contaminating the weld. I will say I did better than I expected and as of this morning, no leaks

I'm in the market for a magnetic drill press. I want to up the number of 5/8" holes on my welding table. Plus I'm going to make a little satellite table. Originally, I did them on 6" centers and 3" centers would be waaaay more useful. Was looking at this guy... any thoughts? Suggestions?

I haven't had one like this before. It burnt right through my jacket and got stuck inside for a few seconds before exiting. I saw the area getting hot and got greedy. I thought "just 2 more seconds and my pass would be finished".

 

I've had many of those and they suck.

Then again I blame it on me using my old welding jackets I've used a shit ton; can only wash it so many times.

 

i always have Aloha Vera jell within reach it works wonders !

Apply ASAP it takes away the pain helps promote healing!

When I was putting 12hrs a day for 5 days straight, I would once a week.

Based on that number a single jacket (if that's all you used) would last a year.

I have 2 so I don't wash them as often.

Have to add in that I used them for school too.

Otherwise I don't really wear them at all for small work and sometimes I'll just wear a simple sleeve unless I'm doing overhead.

 

Yes indeed I washed mine.

It comes down to how many hours a day you wear them.

People start looking for whatever wild life wondered into the shop!

Just got a refill of 75/25 and picked up an Argon tank. Is this about what everyone else is paying?



Also, @Kwikvette / @mjbtaco - what tungsten grinder are you guys using? Went on Amazon and didn't readily see the one you two are usimg.

 

Don't know where the receipt is for my Argon tank, but it's 60CF and costs about $35 to fill/exchange, with taxes.

What is essentially a 150CF tank (I have two) cost me $57 total with taxes, or $53 before.

Hasn't changed in nearly 2 years at all.
