    Hey all,

I flew a little close to the sun and naively damaged by wheel flare with my pressure washer. Being this is a plastic part, I was not sure how well patching the area would look if I attempt the repair myself. A local body repair shop quoted me around $900. Their strategy was going to be to buy the part new and paint it, which seems logical to me, but for $900 I am not sure that it is worth it.

I know there are after market options but I am hoping to maintain the silver flares. I was going to sand the area with a rotary tool, prime and paint that section. I am hoping someone here has success stories here or advice on products for paint/clear coat or strategies. I have read some other forums on here with info but it seems to be products more related to small chips. I plan to eventually trade the truck some years down the line and am trying to hold on to the value best I can. Otherwise a chip on a plastic part would not really bother me. Would it be better for me to buy the new part and paint it myself?

I see no need to buy any new parts. You didn't damage the fender flare, you just peeled the paint off, right?

Yea, just knocked some of the paint off. I am thinking of touching up but I also don't want to make it worse that it already is and its not worth paying $900 to me. Still, if the paint came off that easy, I am worried that sanding will make more chip off and wondered if anyone here has had success touching up the plastic flare without painting the whole thing or replacing it.

I might honestly just not worry about it, I am sure they will get scuffed up anyway and there is no rust factor.

What about wrapping all 4 flares before you sell it? (Need to go to YouTube settings to slow down the playback).
