That was kinda funny, your guys exchange is entertaining to me gotta say. But i'll help a guy out a little bit https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/300k-club.721719/page-2. There is a higher mileage one or something like that but, thats between you two to thumb war over who has to dig for it

There’s like one recurring guy with 330K and not many others that stand out. There are a handful around 200K but I really don’t see all that many high mileage 3rd gens being talked about.

And go figure, the dude with the 330K has had the cylinder imbalance code for a while, but at that mileage it’s more understandable than the 40K-80K it usually happens at.

Of course there are 10,000 more ICE vehicles than EVs, but carry on.

I dug into this awhile back. A lot of the "stats" are blue sky stuff, kinda sorta made up. Thing is there are no solid statistics from state to state, county to county, city to city. Just collected articles and such. Sure there are some fire response numbers, but often in structures, cause not necessarily the vehicle.

I also had an88 (Jetta) for 11 years / 150k miles. Fun little car. Never missed a beat...

Sold it to a friend as I was leaving g the cou try.

    He still has it today!

Odometer broke on him at some 300k... it must be beyond 600k now... easy

    Fire risk or reliability?

I can tell you first hand, vehicle fires suck. However, EV's have presented us a a whole new level of vehicle fires due to thermal runaway, unknown high power wire location, etc... We cannot simply pop the hood to unhook the battery. In my experience, we need to use more man power and ALOT more water for hybrids and EV's. It is a longer call and sometimes yards do not want the cars because they can spontaneously start again. Some departments around the US and Europe simply drop in a tank of water. We can starve the oxygen and it is still cooking and getting worse. We as are many FD's are adopting new SOPs and bringing in specialist to help create these and further train us. Do a simple Google on this one

Now reliability, we have a few Tesla's in the area. All owners like them, but the fit and finish is terrible. Will they improve, yes, but not yet.

    From the article:
"As always, take studies like this one and their findings with a grain of salt, since this is only one source for this information and it therefore can't be confirmed."

    What was their data source?

"When looking at the number of vehicles recalled in 2020 due to fire risk,"

That says NOTHING about actual fires.

Lastly who is the source: https://insideevs.com/info/

"If It Doesn’t Have A Plug, It Doesn’t Appear On Inside EVs"

I am NOT taking sides here. I am NOT. I say we simply don't know! To say one way or another really tells me you might have some extra bias, are ignorant and/or don't know how to negotiate web articles in 2023.

The majority of vehicle fires are electrical in nature involving the 12 volt system found in most passenger vehicles ICE, hybrid or BEV.

EV battery fires are the most challenging to extinguish. For reasons already stated earlier.
