What ports to use for apple car play

Weather tech liners, bed step, bullet point mounts, screen protectors, tauno cover, Pop and Lock remote tailgate lock, hydraulic hood lifts, apple play dongle, dash cam, shackles on front.

All the apple support articles state that if you are having trouble with CarPlay, try another usb port. But I don’t think any of the ports except the one directly below the head unit connect to car play. Am I wrong?
