Does Toyota make a good trailer break controller?
Would an aftermarket controller be better? If so who do you recommend?
Are Bluetooth controllers ok to use.

I have never towed before so I can use the advice.
    Thanks!

The only thing Toyota offers is the plug for your aftermarket brake controller to plug into. (Well hidden, I might add). I’ve used an RF brake controller with my Tacoma and any of the wired controllers will do the job, but In my view, the RedArc Liberty is the best I’ve had.. It’s easy to install, mounts out of sight, plus the dial for manual inputs mounts in a switch hole on the dash so it looks like a factory option.

Bluetooth is fine and likely the least expensive option, but for me, I prefer the dedicated wired controller.

    Enjoy your truck and tow.

I have only run wired brake controllers. Personally, I wouldn't run a Bluetooth controller.

Curt Bluetooth $289 (will probably fall out and you will lose it or pick one up for free on the side of the road)
Redarc $173 + Mounting plate $25 (don't need this but make the installation clean and easy and made by a TW member) = $198

I went with redarc liberty. https://www.redarcelectronics.com/us/tundra-tacoma-brake-controller-kit

and used the mounting plate from @pgfitzgerald

Buy direct via DM or https://www.etsy.com/LucianMade/listing/1417438984/redarc-tow-pro-mounting-bracket-for-3rd

I'm happy with the controller and bracket, clean and easy to install.

Redarc Liberty. Works great. Easy to install. Looks like an OEM install when done

2nd the red arc. Installed one earlier in the year and just finished towing my new 5000 lb trailer 700 miles and it worked superbly.

Redarc gets my vote. I had one that worked flawlessly until it didn't. The controller somehow got moisture in it and shorted out the circuits. It was out of warranty, but I contacted Redarc anyways to see what my options were. To my surprise, they offered a replacement, which ended up being an updated version of the same model. I had to send them my old unit back, but all is well again.
