I’m very close to going with 265/70/17 on my stock 18 sport, but there does seem to be some chance they’ll rub. Decisions.

Seems like a 50% chance they will with OEM mud guards. Mine did. Supposedly the right alignment will fix it but my 2023 with only 90 miles on it rubbed when I swapped to 265/70r17 Toyo AT3. The rub pushed me to do a 1.5" lift via 5100's and progressive AAL.... which I don't regret. ;)

    i don’t have mud guards, so maybe I have a better chance…

also considering 255/70/17 since it sounds like this won’t rub for sure.

You'll probably be fine without mud guards. Mine only rubbed very mildly when backing up and turning and then occasionally when turning into a parking lot with uneven pavement. I drove it that way for nearly 500 miles and I'm confident that removing the mud guards would have solved my mild rubbing issue.... but I want them on to protect my truck.

One more question, what wheels do you have? If you have Sport wheels then the offset on them will help even further that you won't have an issue. Now if you have wheels with a significant offset, then things start to change.....

My sr5 only had the front air damn, which they did rub a tiny bit at full lock so I removed it. Other than that, no issues since then for the last 7 months. Although I do plan on probably a 2” lift and going up slightly in tire size.

Edit: my wheels are 17x8.5 et 0 so that does help gain a bit of clearance being pushed out further.

I do have the sport wheels. If I ever changed them, it would be to the 4Runner trd wheels that a lot of people have. I have the front air dam on, which I don’t mind removing, but I’ve heard it has a noticeable impact on mpg.

You would be fine with the 4Runner wheels. I'm not convinced that the airdam makes much (if any) of a difference in MPG. Truck owners' MPG claims are all over the place.... but there are so many variables that can add some validity to these claims.

Old thread but it helped me make the decision to not lift and go with the falken wildpeak at3w 265 70r17. Like almost everyone says, the tires look so much better in person. Only had them a few days but so far gas mileage looks the same, they ride really well(possibly slightly stiffer which I like) and are quite! I can have my music on the same volume as with the factory goodyear wranglers with 54k miles on them.

Thanks! Oh yes I'm very happy with them. From all I've read I'm sure I will be happy for a while to come. Now if it would just snow this year lol.

@CavalryTRD thanks for posting, the rig looks fantastic! It's great the tires are doing well for you. Did you remove the mud flaps for clearance?

Thanks! No I didn't have factory mud flaps. No rubbing so far that I can tell. I have a drop off on my driveway where it goes from asphalt to crush n run so it can hit hard but I haven't noticed any scraping yet. I actually would like some oem mudflaps to help with rocks since these stick out farther than the OR rims.

This setup will rub at least slightly with OEM mudflaps, almost guaranteed.

I assumed I would have to do some trimming. I'd prefer oem but if someone makes aftermarket ones that are good I'd go with them too.

Rock Blokz flaps solved my issue. Thread here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/aftermarket-mud-flaps-to-eliminate-rubbing.803569/

If you go that route definitely follow the instructions for providing the most clearance, it just involves trimming the flaps slightly along pre scored lines, and leaving off a spacer.
