I wasn't able to find a thread on where people changed out the shifter knob to something different on their manual transmission trucks.

Years ago, I found a control knob on ebay for a M1 Abrams tank sight & ranging device. It was mounted on my old 88' Hilux Toyota for many years & now is transferred over to the 04' Tacoma.

Here is a picture of it & the three switch functions it has. You can't see the third switch as it is under the handle on the left side & is listed as comms (communication).

I guess the black section needs to be recoated as the years of wear show badly in this picture. Inside the handle are 3 milspec micro switches that operated some equipment in the tank

but can be set to momentary contact relays. Any ideas as to what to connect them to & no they are not locking switches, just push to operate & then release when you let go.

Can anyone tell me what the green cover on the right side of the transmission is?

Milspec built by the lowest bidder!! Never forget!!:anonymous:

    I don`t have a green cover !! Someone likes green paint ?

What ever you need those switches for only you know what you want.

Nitrous control switch comes to mind first .

    Control locking relays !

Milspec built by the lowest bidder is so correct. But that said, look @ all the Russian trucks & tanks that have been blown up by the Ukranians, if they built to Toyota standards, they would much more $$$ & still blown up.

US milspec is still better than made in china!

Green is my favorite color with tan being second, got the trucks & trailer to prove it.

Small russet potatoe. Just stab it down on the shifter. Replace weekly, or whenever it starts to rot.

I recently purchase an Srunner and moved to sac. The temps have been over 100 here. The truck came with a metal shift knob. I don't know why people like metal shift knobs so much. It's super hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I installed a carbon shift know on it for now. I might put a wood or leather shift know on it later. At least for now it's not too hot to shift it in the 100+ heat.
