So I have a 2007 with a severely rusted frame. I purchased a 2009 from an online auction that has a good frame but a lot of body damage from an accident. Both are double cab automatic's with he 4.0. Will I be able to just swap bodies and the 2007 will plug into the 2009 or will I have to swap motors and every part over to the new frame? Has anyone done this before? Tried the search b button but no luck.

Well I got around to doing the swap. lifted the cab rolled the 2007 out and the 2009 in. went to plug in the engine and the lugs are different on the ecu. there is also one extra plug. it is grey on the 2009. the plugs aren't the same and won't plug in. My next thought was to use the 2009 ecu. the body plugs won't plug into it (different design). so now I think I am resigned to removing the engine harness from the 2007 and putting it on the 2009 motor. the only problem I see is I don't know what the grey plug wires go to. I have a factory 2007 manual but nothing for the 2009 that shows what that extra plug does. I can't seem to find a 2009 Manual online

I can't help ya but definitely admire what your doing. I hope you can find the answers you need to complete this process. I'm interested to hear about all the bumps along the way and how you over come then. Good Luck!

I must have missed this thread when it first popped up, yea 07 and 09 are different electrically. Alot of pinouts changed.
I'd have to look at some diagrams later to see if might be feasible to mix them or if it would be easier to just put the complete harness out of the donor truck in it.

Are the motors the same. The back of the truck plugs in on the drivers side. I think I am going to just swap the engine harness. I am lifting the cab off again today and will see if the trans connectors are the same.

Yes engines are mechanically and electrically the same, it was just that PCMs changed, some body electrical stuff changed, and pinouts/connectors are different between 07 and 09.

Electrically 2nd gens can be broken down into 3 year ranges where things were pretty much the same, 05-08, 09-11, and 12-15.
Mechanically they didn't change much at all 05-15.

Progress made. I can't believe everything you have to take apart to get to the crank position sensor

Old harness is on. All 2007 plugs are the same. I don't know why the 2009 harness would have an extra plug at the ecu end.

Not sure, the connector layout of the PCM is totally different.

So my next hurdle is I didn’t mark which rear brake line went where in the block along the frame. I have the factory service manual and I can’t find which port does what on the abs module. If I knew what went where I could trace it out.

    Update.

All is well. 2007 body is on 2009 frame and running gear. Had to use the engine harness of the 2007 motor as the plugs weren't correct for the ecu. My only issue now is my steering wheel is off a couple degrees and the tire pressure monitor light is lit up. I am using the same wheels from the 2007 so I don't understand that. I will be doing some more research and try to figure it out. Maybe the receiver is on the chassis.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
I missed it once you were doing the part. You did the right thing. The steering wheel could be off due to being one spline off on the shaft that connects to the steering rack. For the tpms, well you can remove ground to the light and check tire pressure yourself. Mine is an 05, and don’t have to deal with tpms! Outstanding job btw dude.
