The only reason you'd get an exhaust on these trucks is for sound (if you don't have any major power adders). A tune would do more for "smoothing out" the throttle than an exhaust. There aren't many V6's that sound good, and the Tacoma's definitely doesn't sound good uncorked.

Of all the aftermarket exhausts out there, I'd go with the TRD; only because it's closest to stock.

I have the Magnaflow catback on mine. I can certainly confirm that a catback will not help OP with performance or improved throttle response. The greatest restrictions in an OEM exhaust is the downpipe, cats and manifolds and these flow decently for the type of motor it is supporting. It's been called out, but the best way to achieve better performance and drive ability with this engine is a tune. From a performance standpoint, you would be better served spending your money on a proper tune based on what you are looking for than a headers/full exhaust combo.

Had I not got the Magnaflow for a ridiculously good deal I would have kept the stock exhaust.

I put Borla on mine. Supposedly like the TRD but a little louder.

Carven was louder yet with a deep tone. Unfortunately it was raspy if you didn't drive a little hard.

I have a friend in NC. who has the Borla, now that is a great sounding exhaust system. His sounds deeper than the TRD and no drone, I was extremely impressed and thought about changing up. That would be the only other one for me.

I have a Borla stainless steel exhaust and love it. Just a little more grunt over stock but nothing blaring or droning.
Had an MBRP 3in cat back and it was the epitome of a$$. Rusted out within a year and sounded like a riced out honda civic and droned like a digeridoo. I know they're cheap but a cheap exhaust is going to sound like garbage.

TRD is quiet hence why they come stock on the PRO, had the stromung hi tuck and that droned to all hell. Just got the magnaflow overland and have it setup on the loudest setting and it's perfect for daily driving. It sounds great at WOT but not annoying on a cruise.

People claim tacomas, and v6’s in general are impossible to make sound good. Raspy fart back exhausts flying by your house at 3am give v6’s a bap rep. With the correct muffler and resonator setup, tacos can sound good. I’m running a black widow 250 and vibrant bottle resonator, stock piping just welded on by a muffler shop, total only cost me like 300 installed. With just the black widow muffler, it got a little raspy for my taste, similar to MBRP and carven. After installing the resonator it’s perfect. Drone and rasp free, with a deep tone. Simple setup, cats are all stock, imo you don’t need to change your headers to make your truck sound good. Btw anyone with the mbrp or carven and are complaining about it sounding terrible, just throw a resonator on and it’ll clean up the farty rasp sounds.
