I'd get a full report of what the accidents were and a complete record of all repairs done on the trucks before deciding on either.

Both were in front end collisions, that's about all the info I have. Repaired and being sold by the same dealer

I’d pick the one with the best frame, and not leaking from the timing cover.

Neither …you don’t want a vehicle that has Been in an accident .. never fixed right and just opens doors to other issues .

If you must buy one of the two wrecked trucks, the 2017 won't have the Pre Collision sensor in the grille if that matters

You better getting one for a screaming deal or I'd pass. You understand if you ever want to sell the market of interested buyers will be far smaller

But if you must buy, pick the one that steers the straightest. Make sure the steering wheel returns to center correctly. Funny steering behavior could be caused by a frame that will never be straight. Look at the alignment cams and see if they're rotated/adjusted equally side to side.

Maybe you aren't concerned about alignment issues. Maybe it will be a trail beater, that's fine, just look them over real good

Are these trucks cheap enough to buy something that’s been rebuilt?

A clean title truck might not be that much more

Here in Tn. salvaged titltes are “asking” close to clean titles.
    Maybe $3k+$5 k less, it’s insane.

Exactly. At those prices, might as well buy something clean.

They’re rebuilt as cheaply as they can be-any and all cost saving measures are taken,, including corner cutting. They were declared a “total loss” because they cost more than they’re worth to fix, so how could this dealer fix them for less and still make a profit??? By corner cutting and cobbling.
Does anyone really believe the little Shady-Dave’s Okay Used Cars knows something about auto repair biz, that the large insurance companies don’t? The insurance company can, and will, do anything to save a dollar, what ever is best for them.

I know there’s some who have a ton of time and have successfully rebuilt themselves, but for a shop to do it and make a profit??? Nah

Unfortunately in BC, Canada a 3rd gen clean title with low km on it is minimum $40k and that's before the 12% tax. The trucks I'm looking at now are $31,000 and $35,900, I'm making the presumption I'll be able to get the price down a bit. I would obviously prefer to get a clean title truck but it doesn't look like thats happening at my price range

Yeah I guess I'll see, I've seen some half assed rebuilds.

Hard pass. Personally, if I had to stay in a price range, I'd get an older truck with a clean title over newer with rebuilt.

Obviously not my money, but I think you are much better off at $40k for a clean truck over $35k for a rebuilt one. Although if the rebuilt truck is closer to $30k, could be the way to go.

Could drive your old vehicle a little longer to save more as well.

    Good luck!

I was fine with waiting til the right deal came across but my daily got totalled a few days ago and I need a new vehicle quite badly and have wanted a Tacoma for years, I dunno I might end up increasing my budget or going for a 2nd gen. Gonna go check out those 2 rebuilt Tacoma's tomorrow if I can find a ride to get down there

    Don’t let your guard down

Dealers prey on those who need a ride quickly

Oh I'm well aware, appreciate the concern. I have had salesmen call in their buddies acting as buyers to try to pressure me into a sale a few times
