So I'm in the middle of a 4-Hour drive and my AC turned off by itself. There was a weird smell right before it happened. Now it makes a funny noise when I'm idling or just driving in general. Is it safe to drive like this? There's no check engine light on so could this mean that there's a leak or does this point more towards having a bad AC compressor? I'm doing my own research on it right now but I would like some advice from people who have experience with this. Thanks

The mil light is not associated with the AC, so that wouldn't trigger the light. The issue could be anything from a broken belt, seized clutch or idler pulley to electrical at this point.

Before driving, I would verify if the belt is present. If it is, I would make sure it's spinning/turning with the other belts. If it's spinning/turning, I would drive it.

Figured out the coil was blown out and it leaked out freon. Got the compressor replaced

Just happened to me 3 weeks ago. I haven’t messed with it since I have another truck. I’ll probably start looking into it next week
