I just finished installing some CDT Audio Unity Wideband 7.5s in my dash. They sound incredible! They are 4 ohm, but they aren’t noticeably quieter than factory. Plus they are closer to your ears than the door speakers so it still sounds very balanced.

The factory tweets are very muddled, and it’s really noticeable with cymbal crashes. Very clear and defined with the CDTs!

that's interesting. i have a pair of Unity 8's sitting on a shelf. i haven't installed anything yet as i haven't yet purchased a dsp and sound deadening material (work hasn't been quite as good this year compared to last). i would not have anticipated an improvement given the stock power output.

I spoke with CDT before buying. I was initially drawn to them for their 2 ohm 6x9 woofers. I asked them if they had tweets for my factory amp, and they referred me to their Dodge Ram build. I really questioned about the Unity drivers because they are 4 ohm, and they assured me they would sound fantastic. Now that they are in, I have to say I agree with them!

I wish I would have done this before swapping teeeters!

I have and AudioControl SA-4100i measurement microphone, and I stuck it between the headrest and seat sticking out where my head would be. The. I played pink noise at volume 30 & 50 on the oem jbl head unit. The built in dsp was set directly in the middle.

It’s a significantly flatter response curve than I was expecting!

Next up is to install sound deadening in all 4 doors and replace speakers with cdt 6.5 full range in the rears and cdt 6x9 subs in the front.

I’ll post another response curve when I’m done!

Sorry to revive an old post but, I tried to install my Unity 8s this afternoon and the unity grill hits the speaker cover when mounted in the generic plastic tweeter adapter that I bought on Amazon. Do you know what tweeter adapter you are using?

Apologies also for reviving this old thread, but I have the same question. I’ve heard good things about the CDT Audio Unity 8.0, but they don't look like they'll fit under the factory dash speaker cover/grill.

I'm currently speaking with CDT Audio about replacing all of my speakers in my JBL-equipped Taco. How did you guys ended up mounting your Unity wideband speakers without them hitting the dash speaker cover/grill. Did you have to use a bracket with a recessed mount?

I found a thread on a Toyota Sienna forum where someone 3D printed his own recessed mounts for the CDT Audio Unity 8.0. I'm thinking this mount could work for the Tacoma dash, as well.

These would have been awesome. I ended up fabricating my own. I went with the CL-69SUB CF speakers in the front doors and they fit and sound amazing with some DSP tuning. They have a ton of mid bass punch

Thanks for the reply and information!

I'm currently trying to decide between the CDT Unity 8.0 (or 8.0 Plus) and the Audison AP 2 MV (2" wideband) for the dash speakers. Both are 4 ohm, but I've read they'll both perform okay with the factory JBL system. I just don't want a dash speaker/tweeter that's overly bright and shrill.

For the front doors, CDT recommended their HD-690CF (6x9 woofer). Now, I need to follow up and ask how the CL-69SUB CF compares to the HD-690CF. It looks like CDT currently offers 9 different models of 6x9 woofers, so I don't even know where to begin. All I know is I want to stay with a 2ohm 6x9 (so it performs decently with the factory JBL amp) and will fit in the door without modifications. I'm glad to hear the CL-69SUB CF sounds great and fits in the doors well!

If you are keeping the factory amp the CL-69SUB CF wouldn't be ideal they need a lot of power. Good luck with the build and let us know how it sounds. I'm sure there are a lot of people looking for plug and playish replacements for the JBL system.

Thanks again! And that was another one of my concerns... with 125+ watt RMS power handling on many of those CDT 6x9 woofers, I would expect them to be power hungry and not perform well with the factory JBL amp.

I'm going to do some further research before purchasing anything. I have a Beat-Sonic Encore amp installed right now. And while it definitely helps the factory JBL amp drive the stock speakers harder (and cleaner), it's still no where near as capable as an aftermarket amp. I'll tackle the amp situation later down the road.
