Frozen is different than cold, especially on liquids. Liquid is a different animal, like vapor.

Also windshields use to float in a rubber gasket now the are bonded to the body and are part of the structural integrity of the body

Odds are they won't replace it with Toyota Pilkington oem or whatever it's called.

I don't know honestly? I had Safelight repair a rock chip a few times but never a full windshield replacement. If it were me? I'd take it to the dealership since you have a glass warranty. At least you'll know you are getting an OEM windshield.

Are rock chips not common where you live? I replace my windshield every year from giant chips that inevitably spread.

I could be wrong, but I was once told that dealerships contract out glass replacement to glass shops. If that is the case, I'd rather choose my own glass shop rather than have it go to the lowest bidding shop the dealership can find.

It is not, akshyully. It's just one of the few that will both phase change within habitable temperatures and develop a crystalline structure (hence, why it "expands").

Some of the silicates also expand in solid phase, its just that we find their liquid phase to be rather uncomfortable to observe.

When my wife's Prius needed a windshield replaced I called the dealer. They referred me right over to the glass shop they use (local shop not Safelite), so I doubt it will make a difference if you try to get the dealer to do it. One thing the glass shop did do is take it back to the dealer to have the safety systems recalibrated.

I don't believe Safelite will do OEM glass unless you request it and the insurance company has to approve it. I do believe that you can ask for Pilkington glass without the Toyota label. It's the same windshield and its cheaper than the Toyota branded one.

I have the same coverage with Geico, and used the glass coverage for the first time after 10+ years with Geico. Mind you, i've never had any claims with Geico either, perfect driving record.

Same crack on my Tacoma windshield -- had it replaced , 0 out of pocket costs.

But... a month later at renewal time, they upped my premium by almost $80/month.

Had I known that, I would have just paid out of pocket.

Geico will get their $$ back one way or another.

H20 is the only non metallic liquid to expand when it freezes.

This is a fact my friend. There is no argument

Just a bunch of old crap
This is everyday stuff, and we all get many broken windshields all our life. Those windshields deflect more than you actually realize, too. I lost count on how many windshields have been replaced on my current truck, let alone on all vehicles I've owned. Glass coverage on insurance is worth its weight in gold.
