There is a box above the step bumper on my 22 Tacoma SR , and I am hoping it contains a trailer wiring harness.

    What is in the box?
How do you get the cover off?

Just got the truck and haven't read the whole OM. But didn't find anything under towing or wiring.

Trailer wiring is hard wired to the rear truck harness. It is not disconnectable anywhere except at the tow plug itself. If you don’t have the tow package, then you have a different rear wiring harness than trucks that do. Meaning, you have no tow wiring.

Your option for adding tow wiring is pretty much to get an aftermarket kit that hooks up via the tail lamps.

Indeed , normally If you do have the tow package , you should see a plug for a tow controller under the dash above the lower plate under the steering wheel.

It wll be P&P if you have the OEM tow package (a tow controller that is). That tow package would also have the OEM 7-pin/harness built into the bumper.
If not, then your truck is likely not set up with the main tow harness.

Thanks, my truck does not have the tow package, so I will need to get the kit. And a nice day to you caribe!
