I’m trying to install the top hat on a set of 47-234413 Bilstein 6112 shocks. ( apparently these are the older 6 groove type ). After stacking all the parts, I don’t have any threads left. Instructions say to add the “Rod adaptor” onto the stem. When I do that. There are no threads left on the stem to start the nut at the top, but if I don’t have that on, I have enough threads. What does it do? Correct orientation, fully seated. IMG_8085.jpgIMG_8087.jpg

Another important bit of information might be that I’m using a set of top hats off Amazon from TRQ, SKA70480
Not OEM. Wanted to keep the old coil overs assembled. I haven’t been able to compare them.

You need to compress the coil

Not compressed enough,, using coil compressor won't do it ,, you need to compress it from using the lower control arm and jack

I will try this when I have the time. I was skeptical at first, until I realized that this is probably the only way to compress the new and stiff rubber bushing inside the top hat. Hopefully that will get me enough threads. Really wish I wouldn't have gone and ground and cut up the coil compressor to get the ThiCC 6112 shock body enough clearance to fit. I would have returned it to Amazon.

Yeah, that's the problem I ran into, the shock body is too thick for the compressors to grab and tighten down .. doing it from the lower control arm is very easy, honestly I wish I tried that first .. just make sure that your car has jackstands around , and have someone watch to make sure you don't tilt

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
SPC has a style that works for the 6112. Much better than the bulky ones from the Auto Parts Store.
I bought a knock off of the SPC and have used it several times with success. No need to use the Lower control arm and jack it method.
