    True Facts... with Gritto :)

Coke is good for cleaning bug guts off your windshield.
Many southerners still do this
    No, really.

I first became aware of this phenomenon when we took a family vacation to visit my grandparents in Perdido Beach, Alabama.
We had just moved off the farm.
My Mom, a city raised Southerner, couldn't take it any more.
You pretty much gotta be born to farm life.
    But that's another story...

We stopped to get gas in Atlanta (which was a lot different back then in the 60s).
You didn't pump your gas, a gas station attendant did that for you... and more besides.
Yeah, I know, hard to believe huh?

Anyway, the guy started pumping the gas.
Then he opened up a little 6 oz bottle of Coke, gave it a shake, and squirted it all over the windshield.
    Huh?
He then proceeded to check the oil and all the usual stuff.
The pump clicked off and he removed the spout and put the gas cap back on.
Then he doused the windshield with water and squeegee-ed it.

    That'll be $4.50, Sir :)
(Gas was like 30 cents /gallon at the time).

We went on our merry way and I asked why the guy used Coke on our windshield.
    My Mom replied: "Bug guts".
My Dad and I both went: "Huh?"
Mom: "Yeah, it works really well, but you gotta give it a minute or two. That's why he sprayed it first thing.
... and this is where they make Coke, soooo..."

    https://www.accurate-autobody.com/2022/04/how-to-remove-bugs-from-your-windshield/

When All Else Fails, Try Coke
One of the more novel ways we have heard to clean your windshield is with Coca-Cola. The Coke acts as a mild solvent that breaks down the bugs and make it easier to remove them with a clean rag and standard glass cleaner. Essentially, it is a pre-treatment application before spaying and wiping down the glass.

We don’t know how effective this really is compared to other approaches. Coke and other colas are fairly acidic, with a pH of around 2.5. However, white vinegar from your pantry has about the same pH. Keep in mind that pH is not the only measure of how well acids will dissolve certain substances. Vinegar is mostly acetic acid, but colas’ acidity is caused by phosphoric acid, which might be more effective at dissolving bug guts. You might also try using lemon juice, which is even more acidic (pH 2—the lower the pH, the stronger the acid), but is mostly citric acid.

We haven’t resorted to this solution ourselves, and we don’t know if anyone’s done a systematic study. Some people swear by it, though, and it won’t hurt you or your windshield. So if you’re having trouble cleaning bugs off, give it a try.

My high school band teacher called it "bug juice" as well. Every Friday night, at football games, once we completed our halftime performance, we'd usually head to the snack bar. He'd always tell us "Nobody spill any bug juice on your uniforms!". Our school colors were red, black, and white. Our uniforms had a big white chest/front panel with a banner diagonally with our school name on it. He didn't want anyone getting sods/fruit punch/whatever on the white section.

I believe the correct answer is, when you shift to manual mode it tells you what gear the truck is currently in. :fingerscrossed: :humble:

Ah, so Bob's OR is an automagic, but they have a "manual" mode. My 2014 VW Passat had that, as does my wife's 2022 Highlander. But neither of them told you what gear you were in.

My OR is a 6 speed handshaker, so I have to know what gear I'm in all by myself :duh::rofl:
