My last truck was a 4.0 and this one’s a 2.7, does that count?

Put a turbo in the 2.7. Way cheaper and easier than a full swap to the 4.0. Question has come up several times but so far no go IIRC.

This is pointless if you can just trade it for a 4.0

If you’re you’re gonna go thru all the work to swap then put in a V8 or something cool

You would need all the wiring and the ECU. Trade it for. 4.0

Just drive the 2.7, it’ll probably far outlast the 4.0. These trucks were never about being fast or powerful…

It's been done yes but it's no easy task, at a minimum you would need from the donor truck:

    Engine
    PCM
    Transmission
All associated wiring harnesses (engine, transmission, etc).
    Transfer case (if its 4wd)

All this vs. just selling/trading for a stock 4.0L -- hmmmm.

OP, if you decide to go down the motor-swap route, do explain your reasoning. Does the frame & body have sentimental value?!

    Can it be done? Yes

    Does it make sense? No

As everyone else has said for all the time and money involved it's more economical to sell it and buy a V6 truck. Or you can turbo or supercharge the 2.7 to get more performance out of the 4 banger.

All said if you already have a donor car for the motor, trans, ECU and all the other parts and are doing all the labor yourself it might make sense.
