I am not a mechanic but I play one on TV..


I found that I could drive nicer cars if I just sorted out how to repair em.
I'm super picky about cars, I know what to look for; I'm 5/5 on buying solid, well maintained, used vehicles.

I also pay attention to my vehicle as I drive; I could feel my 2011 BMW mis/fire before the ECU caught it/CEL light went on - first I swapped coils to make sure I was correct, then I replaced all 6 of em.. Felt pretty good about that one.
Right now the 'service engine soon' nanny light is on - the car needs an O2 sensor but since it is EPA bullshit and the car is running fine [no limp mode] - F**K it..

 

You are correct but it still could be something simple - some shops won't hesitate to throw parts/labour at a problem without actually sorting the problem out at the customer's expense; drives me insane when I hear stories about that..

Especially if you can get some pressure when you stomp the pedal really hard. Daily driver or daily sitter? What color is the fluid btw?

 

If that’s the case, master cylinder.
If they can get someone to push the pedal while looking into the master cylinder… they should be able to see the fluid bypass during the push (looks like a small burble of fluid).

 

True, and I agree. His shop is pretty good though, so I doubt they'll bend him over too far...
