Had no choice to get where we're were going.
It was actually a lot of fun, we took it at around 4:30am.

I'm incredibly impressed with that shelf holding up 4 jack stands.

    Thanks man!

Hell yeah, haha. I used to go every year for Miatas at the Gap, but haven't been in a while. My Miata is currently not running so I figured screw it, I'll run the Tacoma down there :) We just set up at Fontana Dam. It's mostly just turned into our annual camping/driving meet at this point. We had a guy with a V8 porsche, built/turbo NB, mine and a buddy's Tacoma, and one dude brought his Grom lol.

On Amazon, they are now priced at $70, which seems very good:

Try music with the widest dynamic range, and sound-field / separation. My vote would be just about anything engineered by Alan Parsons.

That’s a good price. I paid 79.75 back in June.

    I’ll check it out thanks.

I installed an Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 Kit (yesterday) that I got new in box from a guy on Facebook Marketplace. The kit was from @HeadStrong Off-Road and included a sway bar relocation bracket, 3 leaf AAL, and longer U-bolts. I only got ~1.5" of lift from the coilovers (stock front end, no extra weight), so I cranked them up until I was at an even 2.5" of lift on both sides (that meant cranking the drivers side about 1/4" more). I was very happy with Headstrong's AAL and the instructions they provided on their website, however if the centering pin was a bit shorter it would definitely make the install easier. I had almost 2" of excess that I had to grind off to fit the factory bump stops back on. The ride quality is almost the same as stock, just a tad firmer. My wife said she couldn't even notice a difference.

A local shop quoted me $600 to install the kit. I wanted to save that money, but I am by no means a mechanic. Up until this point, all I had self-performed was fluid & filter changes and 1 tire rotation. I've always paid my local stealership to do everything else, which I was tired of doing. Instead of simply spending the $600 and be done with it, I did my homework, spent ~$100 on the necessary tools that I didn't already have, borrowed a floor jack and jack stands from a buddy, commandeered my parents garage for the day, and spent my entire day (~11 hours) installing the kit. The install went well overall. The hardest part for me was getting the tie rod ends and control joint knuckles to bust free, as all I had to work with was a 16oz claw hammer. The rusted cotter pins on those nuts were a bitch and a half too. I also accidentally installed the AAL's backwards at first, so that added an extra hour of work . I'm very happy with the way my truck looks now, but I am far happier that I was able to do the work myself, save a net amount of $500, and learn a LOT in the process. Here's to trying new things and learning new skills

Pics below are before and after. My 265/70/16 tires look small now lol

Worked on my Rock Lights install and got a lot done but failed to find my heat shrink tubing, so I wasn't able to connect any wiring, just basically got it all ran. Pretty time consuming as I am running all the wiring for each light along the frame and paying attention to avoid moving parts. So far I have only 3 lights mounted, the OEM Toyota looking rock light switch is mounted- although the dremel kept slipping out of my sweaty hands and I marked up my switch panel. I will have to clean that up later. I have the lights control box/bluetooth module mounted, and its associated leads for each of the lights ran down to a point right behind the driver side fog light. I figured this to be a good point to chase each of the lights wiring to their respective locations. I have the relay and harness for the switch ran and ready to be tied in. Control box wiring and relay harness wiring fed through the firewall and ready to be connected to the switch. After I get some heatshrink I can hook all the up. I am wondering how that control box is going to work being tied into the relay, I didnt want to just hook it up to the battery as I bypassed the switch it came with, and instead using a cali-raised relay harness. It's just power and ground for the control box, but Im wondering if the relay will mess with it functioning the way it should? Guess we will see. I have one light each in the forward front wheel well area for driver and passenger fronts, and the third light I got to mount is located right at the frame crossmember where the front diff is. By the time I got this far it was 104 outside and was just too hot for me. I still have like 7 lights to mount. Will try to get some pictures later and share mounting locations and I plan to clean up my horrible switch mounting job before I share that lol.

Put my compressor in on a slee mount. Just waiting for some 90 degree elbows to be delivered to finish putting it together.

Also installed a $35 support bracket to put my rear bumper cap back on since I knocked it off on a trail the other week. Anyone know if it's possible to re-calibrate BSM without paying the dealership $$$$?

Well despite getting rear ended week before last I was still able to take the truck on a little beach trip. We had a blast exploring Cape Lookout! 20230805_171543.jpg

They are not plug and play on the JBL systems. You will either need an adapter or splice the wires to hook them up. The plugs are not the same as the factory speakers.

Picked up a 6ft bed mat and OEM metal divider today on marketplace and it was my answer to a secure way to hold my 1950 steel gerry cans.

Had to trim the bed mat, but I was also trimming the front mudflaps so why not? :taco:

    Good to know.

I should have thought to look up the tweeters for JBL systems on Crutchfield's site. D'oh! :anonymous: Here are the ones they list, (although the don't carry the DS18 brand at all):

    https://www.crutchfield.com/g_400/All-Car-Speakers.html?tp=105&fa=1&pg=3#&avf=Y&l=A

They do list bass blockers for some. I've used those in several installs and they did make a difference. Worth a few dollars and IIRC there's enough room to squeeze them into the dash area.

The DS18s come with a plug with bare wires that can be spliced in. I didn't look at all of the recommended tweeters listed on Crutchfield, but they all appear to have bare wires and none that I looked at had a connection adapter. So if the DS18 aren't PNP, hopefully it's a fairly easy, straightforward connection.

I'd really like to hear what the $1K Focal FRAK tweeters sound like! o_O

Hopefully one of the good folks here will be able to post some photos of the JBL tweeter mounting and wiring setup. TIA!

Thank you! The ride is very similar, just a bit firmer. I couldn't believe how similar it was, though, in comparison to the stock offroad suspension. Since this was my first time doing this type of install, I drove the first few miles with Radio and AC off, gritting my teeth anticipating hearing problematic noises, but nothing so far!

According to this post: JBL Premium Upgrade. Replacing speakers and subwoofer. you can use this adapter for the JBL tweeters: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-MbaWxbhE8ry/p_12071045/Speaker-Wiring-Harnesses.html
