For some reason when i had it set on parking mode it didn't do voltage cut off, so my battery was dying. Solar panel barely kept up with it.

The fact this thing comes on and off without hassle still blows my mind. One o the bolts took a rock and needed some persuasion to get the socket on, but it went back on no problem. Will replace them all next oil change.

I think I have an addiction or something. Anyone else just get an itch to spend money on their taco but don’t always know what they want

I'm not 100% confident so i need someone to double check my calculation.
Next week i'm taking a trip to OBX and will be off grid for several days on Cape Lookout. I am trying to figure out how long my fridge will run on my battery box setup. i am currently testing it this week leaving it on as well. Obviously 85 degree heat on the beach and opening/closing will affect it too.
Iceco states the fridge will average draw .347 kw/hr / 24hrs.
I have a group 31 100amp hr AGM deep cycle battery.
    If i'm correct, the math is .347 X 1000 / 12v = 28.9 amps/24hrs= i should get roughly 3 days, 8hrs using their bench test information correct.

I wonder if your cam has a setting to shut off after so many minutes of shutting the engine off, just a guess.

I have stuff that's been waiting to go on the truck a while now so trying to find the time and do that first.

Money in general..in a little bit I'd be spending like a sailor getting tattoos

20W solar panel with an MPPT controller is like 50 bucks on Amazon. I have one on my roof, plan to use it with a fridge but might up the size of the panel. Either way, i think the 80/100W is "only" 100$ or so.

It shuts down about 30S After. They have a low voltage cutoff at like 12.x something, but it was either too low for the Tacoma or something.

Strange, I wonder if it was a faulty unit. I've left my truck sitting almost a week and never had any issues, even a slow crank

I've looked at some of the Amazon solar setups and they seemed plagued with controller warranty claims. I'd rather not have to rely on one.

There are other things to consider, and I might be "nuking it"... but
Each cycle start, there is a surge/in rush.
As battery power drops(voltage drop), amp draw will increase.
    Otherwise....

    I'd add some solar,
AND, I never travel without, is a NOCO GB40.
That way, even if the battery smokes, as long as alternator is good, you're never stuck.

    .347kWh @ 12v = 28.9 Ah (per 24h)

    100Ah (nominal) / 28.9 Ah = 3.46 (days)

This assumes you're going to get all 100Ah out of the battery. In reality, it's best to derate this capacity by 50% to determine the usable capacity, because as charge drops so does the voltage, and below a critical threshold you aren't getting usable voltage.

Therefore, for your purposes I would consider it to be more like 40 hours.

If you really needed a precise estimate you would want to look up the voltage curve of the battery, and the input range for the load device, and do some more complicated math, but you're not going to the moon so the 50% rule is reasonable.

The smaller Renogy MPPT controllers are good to go if you want a reliable, inexpensive setup for solar input or even shore power (with a separate DC charger).

And also, these things don't run non-stop.
KW/AH consumed will also be determined by, temp settings, ambient conditions, and how often is it opened.

So, if you had it set for 37f, and it was in 40f conditions, and didn't access it... battery would last much longer than sit running in 90f conditions. Etc.
But, Calc at 100% duty, and I like @deanosaurus suggestion of planning on only using 50% of the battery....

50$ you're always going to get a couple mistakes in there. You're always buying 3 things: The Cost, The Quality, and The Delivery. If you're going to drop Cost and Delivery, then Quality is probably going to come with it. I haven't had any issues with my panel or controller. I only have a 1.5 mile commute, and the solar panel recharges the battery instead of the alternator. Been on since February, no issues.

Also it's Amazon, Buy it for the trip, run it, then return it :)

No worries here, more Home Depots in the USA, then Lowes Lowest aren't always the best.
