    Hello,
I had some work done last year (tires, replaced worn CV boots, alignment). Ever since then my truck has seemed... bouncy or wiggly.. Just a small subtle instability in the front end.. Like every bump resonates a little. I've been blaming the tires.. (different brand than I had before).

However, I noticed this.. The side of my shock/strut is worn... I have not noticed any wear here in the past, and probably would have..
What do people think about this (see attached pic)? And how to fix? Just tighten the top middle strut bolt? The strut doesn't seem to be completely centered in the tower either.. And, both sides are the same. (both not quite centered, and both wearing in that area).

    Thanks!

    What year is this vehicle?
Any modifications, lift, bigger tires, etc....?
What kind of offroad driving does this vehicle see?
Who did the work on it?

Looking at the very top washer, it doesn't look like that has much compression on it.

The main photo you're showing looks like the shock boot perhaps? It might have popped out of place if the main stack of washers and bushings wasn't tightened properly

Sorry, should have given more info.

    2012 Tacoma.
OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks. That part which is worn in the pic is just a plastic cover. (if that's what you mean by the boot).
It's an 'overlanding' rig.. (in my forum pic). So, I go on really rough forest roads. But I'm not rock crawling.
It has about 32" tires now. A couple inches of lift. (Front and rear lockers, upgraded brakes, springs, leafs, shocks, more I'm forgetting to mention).
When he did the alignment, he most definitely un-did the 'off road' or 'lifted' style alignment I had, with extra high caster, and put it into factory specs.. Which might contribute to the wobble I feel.. I don't know a lot about alignment, but think high caster adds some stability.
A GM car dealer did the work.. (I am their IT admin, which is why it was done there). I do most of the work on my truck, on my own.. And am always happier when I do.

I guess buy now I could have looked up the torque spec on that top nut and checked it.. I'll do that next.

Well....... I think the shock mount has worn components.. Perhaps having my truck on a lift for the first time in many years is what caused them to move around enough for me to notice right after the work I had done on my truck. The shocks aren't centered in the mounts, and that shouldn't be possible, w/out a worn retaining ring or bushing. And, the top nut is as tight as it will get.. But the shocks are still loose in the mount. I can freely spin that upper rubber bushing in the photo. It's not compressed at all. But I can't tighten the bolt any more.

I have been thinking about purchasing new suspension... This OME setup has about 90k miles on it now. SO.... Maybe that's how I'll fix it.....
