Thanks again for members that assisted me with O-ring prt#

being proactive for front wheel bearings(next)

    1996 2wd 2.4L 5 lug

    from searching
Have inner and outer bearings/races in front…..old school, easy ones
I have pressed in bearings 5 times (old Subaru)and what a PITA

cannot find any vids to prepare for the easy ‘cotter pin’ ones that my taco has
Found one vid but dude was not changing bearings so not that informative
    Thanks in advance
    Steven

Its the outer bearing (A-3) that takes it in the ass...

that one I repack or replace every couple years.

I get those from auto zone.....National bearng A-3....$13.

The inner one I buy the best one that napa has......about $32....
which they are out of.....Koyo 942...

When I went in an redid those.....cleaned and switched everything to stp bearing grease.....so from now on I can just repack the outer one with new grease and is same as grease as still on inner so I dont have to redo inner one but every couple cycles.... 3 to 4 yrs....

Yeah those races sit inside the hub......and are a pia to get...

have to reach thru the back on each and carefully tap that lip with a hard drift.....

I would heat it all up real good with a torch....

I have left in the 'inner's outer race before......but your taking a chance....
but I changed them way before failure....

If you damage that 5lug hub......it might take 6 months of surfing online to find a salvage replacement...
right now there are none available.......last month there was two old rusty used on ebay for little less than $100 ea....

    So CAREFUL is the word.....

I notice on that fabtech video that he welded his outer bearing to the spindle.....

If your gonna run big ass tires and lifts.......5lug is not your friend.....

'these are not the droids your looking for'........

Also the reason I repack em every other year......

    Excellent advice Tsilver.
I wasn’t aware of NLA parts on this year
    (Learn something new everyday)

80% chance that race is not going to come off cleanly (IMO)
    Big tires? LOL
My kids veh……I got 1.5yrs to make this stocker tip top
Freakin great project for a while

    IMG_3291.jpg Small update y’all
Just to see what I was getting into
Decided to do some exploratory surgery

amazingly, everything came off w/out issues!
With only LF wheel off, tried to spin rotor….less than 1/4 of a pretty loud turn. Terrific.
Took off caliper/bracket, then spun again. 3 full revolutions! WTF?
    Then inspected pads
    Never seen this before

    New rotor mounted
And the caliper dowels/bolts bone dry(almost twisted the rubber boots in half so dry!
Thinking rookie brake job with wrong pads????
    Lmk what y’all think

    So
I feel better about knocking out races as nothing frozen/hub decently greased up.
Bearings less than good still going to RR.

    My new Q
    I see a rear oil seal(inner)
    90311-5005
    That’s NP
But some sites show outer too
I don’t see where this would sit
I don’t know if prior owner just never replaced
    2.4L 5 lug!

    thanks everyone
